Directed by Ft. Langley, the duo of William Wilkinson and Oliver Brooks, the pair had to say, “From the outset of the project it was clear to us that the heart of “Margaret Downe” is in Aidan’s detailed, narrative lyrics. Visually accompanying the song presented a challenge though: we were wary of creating imagery that would too literally convey the story – it would make the video’s pace too fast and its structure too constricted – while on the other hand we felt it was important that the video still be thematically related to the song. Ultimately we settled on a structure that would allow us to explore Margaret Downe through a series of quiet vignettes, shadowing but not directly illustrating the story arc, letting the lyrics speak for themselves while revealing her world with careful cinematography and slow, deliberate pacing.”
