Shout! Factory has released the first single-disc anthology of Buddy Guy’s impressive 50-odd year career. Through his career, the king of the Chicago blues has won 23 W.C. Handy Awards (Blues Music’s Highest honour. Buddy Guy has won the most) , 5 Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in 2005. One of the biggest influences on Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Rolling Stones (The band got their name from a Buddy Guy song.), Buddy Guy performs both traditional and modern blues songs. The Definitive Buddy Guy features 17 mind-blowing tracks that feature appearances from Junior Wells, Rolling Stones guitarist Bill Wyman, Pinetop Perkins, Terry Taylor and Dallas Taylor.
The album has definitely had some work put into it by the people over at Shout! Factory. The recordings, even the live recordings are so crisp and clear. Each song is excellent, there’s not one single second of filler on this album, and is mixed so beautifully. This is one album that you have to turn up the volume, put your headphones on, close you eyes, and imagine Buddy Guy walking around and jamming at the end of his 100 foot guitar chord while playing his trademark black and white polka dot guitar.
