“From Soldier to Songwriter”… How many musicians these days can record an album without a computer and still sound just about ready for an indie record deal? Jessica Paris released her debut CD “Tempting the Gods” independently in 2007. Considering this is almost the end of 2008, all I can say is that good things come to those that wait.
With a range of musical and lyrical styles Paris plays plenty of different instruments and flexes her vocals from start to finish in songs like ‘New Orleans’, ‘Medals’, and ‘Half Moon’. She even finds time to perform metaphorical fallacio on the devil in the song ‘Whore’. It’s the tale of a 16 year old that could have been anything in life… I think you know where this story might be going. ‘Half Moon’ is my personal favorite song of the album. Once again, good things come to wait as you’ll have to wait until the end of “Tempting the Gods” to get to this solid slow jam. While there is plenty of funk to the album, ‘Sal’s Ballad’ mixes it up with a bit of straight up hip hop, and the funktastic flavor of ‘Insanity’ brings home a memorable solo debut from this Air Force Vet and member of the band Honey Spot Blvd.
The funk laid down throughout “Tempting the Gods” is sure to have crossover appeal outside the standard female musician genre. You can catch Jessica Paris playing gigs in the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania area as well as on the net at: www.JessicaParis.com
