OPM, Golden State Of Mind

opm__golden_state_of_mind_album.jpgSex, drugs, and rock & roll; or, in this case: “champagne, cocaine, up all night… its dirty white”.   The hits keep on coming as OPM released its latest album on Suburban Noize Records, Golden State of Mind, August 19, 2008.

From the opening track ‘Feel the Vibration’ [featuring Jim Perkins], to songs like ‘Square Peg’ [Featuring Pato Banton], Golden State of Mind brings out OPM’s finest work so far, and mixes in all kind of guest appearances to make this album a proper addition to any music fans collection who’s been California dreamin’.   Other interesting cameos on Golden State of Mind include Johnny Richter from Kottonmouth Kings, and Sen Dog from Cypress Hill.   Golden State of Mind represents an evolution in sound for OPM with a more polished feel coming through from start to finish.   Although, there is something to be said about the raw emotion and magic captured by OPM with their previous hit ‘Heaven is a Halfpipe’.

Currently on a nationwide tour opening for Silverback Music artists Rebelution and The Expendables, OPM is in a solid position to continue their ascent in the Reggae-Dub [with the occasional punk & more thrown in] scene.           Golden State of Mind is a road ready album set to rep California right to the rest of the US.   ‘Together we’ll find a way’…’Cuz I’m a square peg, tryin’ to find my way to a round a hole”…

Political disclaimer for anyone looking for a party band and mindful of politics in their music: the album contains standard and fair concerns about sending our kids off to war for oil, etc… very legitimate concerns.   Then comes this off topic item from the band bio found on the OPM Myspace page and OPMden.com, “we all know the huge success the band had with ‘Heaven is a Halfpipe’, huge radio airplay from their debut album, and combine sales with their two following full-length albums at over a million. But that means as much as Bush apologizing for Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs & Cuba…”     Qué???   I am pleased to report, in the interests of peace on Earth, that some of my proudest moments as an American were watching Democrat Senator John Kerry and Republican Senator John McCain work together in an effort to make amends with Vietnam. The icing on this ‘peace’ of irony cake is that on June 22, 2007 the President of Vietnam was welcomed for the first such visit to the White House of any post-war President of Vietnam, by George W. Bush … As for the rest of those countries…I could type all night, but I’ll leave that to another website…

Fortunately we live in a country where OPM can say what they want and party all night long.   So get yourself a copy of Golden State of Mind, ‘Feel the Vibration’, and ‘Taste that Honey’, but be careful of that ‘Dirty White’…
