With the August release of her debut LP, Alas I Cannot Swim now confirmed for August 18 on Astralwerks Records, Laura Marling, who just turned 18 this year, will return to New York City for two highly anticipated performances in June.
Winning over music critics and fans alike, Laura is being hailed one of the most gifted performers to rise out of the growing British folk scene. Alas, I Cannot Swim, which was released in Britain in February, affirms this claim in spades. Her sense of melody and gift for lyricism would be impressive in someone decades older, but it’s not just Marling’s youth which makes her shine; her songs are stunningly crafted and, since her first US shows in January, she has found a rapidly expanding state-side audience. Her, My Manic And I EP garnered acclaim from such disparate publications as The New York Times and Teen Vogue.
The newest UK single “Cross Your Fingers/Crawled Out Of The Sea” is a two-part gem of a song. Watch the video here:[youtube kE9pmbjLMSs nolink]
