Daddy Yankee releases his first album since his latest multi-platinum production El Cartel: The Big Boss in 2007, which promises to break all music expectations.
Talento de Barrio: El Soundtrack, from his label El Cartel Records, is presenting “Pose” as the first official single of the new album. The album will be released on July 15, 2008.
Daddy Yankee not only produced the soundtrack Talento de Barrio: El Soundtrack but he is also staring in the movie Talento de Barrio, to continue expanding the power of the reggaeton industry with special participation of Tempo and Arcangel, and producers Eli “El Musicologo” and Menace. For Daddy Yankee, Talento de Barrio: El Soundtrack marks a major step in his phenomenal career, which has taken him from the hoods of San Juan, Puerto Rico, to being named by Time Magazine as ‘one of the hundred most influential people in the world.’
“This CD goes by the hand of the film. It is a concept of urban music from the street, but we took the flavor from the street and we evolved it to produce new ideas and themes,” said the international star from Puerto Rico, where he continues sharpening the details of this new production.
In spite of the diversity, Talento de Barrio: El Soundtrack presents dance, social and romantic subjects, that are all related to the movie which will be released this summer. The movie shows the struggle that young people have to go through and the obstacles that they need to overcome in order to try to move forward.
“Pose” presents a mix of hip-hop, disco, and Latin inspiration with a touch of European rhythm. “When I perform I notice that everybody has a camera and is giving their best pose, especially the women who always want to look their best. This is where I got the inspiration for this theme,” said Daddy Yankee.
The urban public can enjoy a first taste of Talento de Barrio: El Soundtrack with the release of “Somos calle,” which is also being released with a video.
El Cartel: The Big Boss was the top selling album of 2007, and in 2008 it received Billboard’s prominent ‘Album of the Year Award’ with over one million copies sold world-wide. Daddy Yankee has also just recently received the prestigious ‘Honor of the Year Award’ from Harvard University.
Aside from all of his recent honors, Daddy Yankee has been working on a new fragrance which you can expect to be launched nation-wide sometime this fall 2008. He was also chosen to be the DJ of the radio station “San Juan Sounds” in the newly released video game Grand Theft Auto IV, which has already sold over 6 million copies.
In 2006, the live CD/DVD edition of “Barrio Fino en Directo” was the most sold Latin Album, according to Billboard Magazine. Daddy Yankee was named ‘Artist of the Year’ in the Latin Music Billboard Awards and in MTV’s Latin American Video Music Awards, ‘Composer of the Year’ in ASCAP and ‘Urban Artist of the Year’ in “Premios Lo Nuestro” of Univision. In addition to the honor that Daddy Yankee received in Time Magazine, this past June, he was named ‘one of the hundred most influential people’ by People En Espanol.
