Sep 2, 2010
Publick Theatre Boston (http://www.publicktheatre.com), a resident company of the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA), will present Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound September 2 – 25, 2010 (Previews are September 2 – 5) at the BCA Plaza Theatre, 539 Tremont Street, South End Boston. Characters and conventions collide in Stoppard’s layered and witty indictment of the English "whodunnit", merging murder mystery clichés with a satirical send up of insouciant newspaper critics that results in a hilarious cautionary tale for all who put their ego ahead of Art. Directed by the company’s Artistic Director Diego Arciniegas. Performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 - Fridays at 8, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Special Press performance Sunday, September 5 at 7PM. Tickets will go on sale by July 27th. Tickets are $20 (Previews Only) - $37.50. For more information and tickets, call 617-933-8600 or visit http://www.bostontheatrescene.com.
Moon and Birdboot, two mediocre theatre critics, have gone to review yet another murder mystery, set in the parlour of "charming but isolated" Muldoon Manor. When the fog rolls in, it becomes clear that more than one person has ulterior motives for being at the show. Reality and theatricality become intertwined - then indistinguishable - as doubt falls on whether or not a play, or the perfect murder, might be in progress. - APRIL SMITH AND THE GREAT PICTURE SHOW TO PERFORM AT U.S. OPEN SEPT. 8
Sep 8, 2010
April Smith and the Great Picture Show will bring their swinging, juke joint swagger to one of the biggest stages in sports on Sept. 8, when they perform at the 2010 U.S. Open, in Flushing, NY.
The New York Postdeclares Smith "adorable, quirky, and the owner of a voice that could cure depression," in their PopWrap blog, adding that, "April makes the world a better place. Period." That makes the Brooklyn-based quintet the perfect act for the tennis tournament that boasts the slogan, 'It Must Be Love' - they play on the U.S. Open's Baseline Stage, Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 6pm. - HOPSCOTCH MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR SEPT. 9-11, 2010

The festival will be headlined by two nights in Raleigh City Plaza, downtown’s crown jewel, which opened last fall. APPEARANCE
Sep 27, 2010
BETTYE LaVETTE returns to Los Angeles for her first solo shows since the May 25 release of her critically acclaimed INTERPRETATIONS: THE BRITISH ROCK SONGBOOK. For two nights – September 27-28 – the Grammy-nominated singer takes the stage at Largo accompanied only by a piano player. Tickets for both performances on sale now.
BETTYE’s L.A. shows follow a recently-wrapped stint on the road opening for legendary Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant. That tour was not so much a notch in BETTYE's belt as it was another link in the chain: Her latest work is an impassioned dissertation on the much-documented influence that American blues and soul had on British rock n' roll – but more than that, it's an exploration of how those echoes from a foreign shore in turn influenced and reshaped American blues and soul.
www.bettyelavette.com - Street Dogs and Devils Brigade are coming to Austin on September 29th
Sep 29, 2010
STREET DOGS and DEVILS BRIGADE who will be performing at The Red Seven in Austin, TX on September 29th. Both bands will be releasing exciting new albums on August 31st, so this would be an excellent opportunity to talk to them about the records and preview their upcoming shows.
If you're unfamiliar with the bands, here's some info for you...
Street Dogs are an Irish styled, Boston bred punk band led by the highly revered frontman Mike McColgan, who was formally the original singer of the Dropkick Murphys as well as a Gulf War veteran and a Boston Fire Fighter. Punk rock runs deep in the veins of Street Dogs, with McColgan's uncompromising lyrics alongside bassist Johnny Rioux, guitarists Marcus Hollar and Tobe Bean III and drummer Paul Rucker's fist pumping street punk anthems. The band burst onto the scene in 2002 and has released a string of classic albums including 2008's State of Grace, which critics called "a raucous and purposeful working man's ride" (Dallas Morning News) with "the kind of political streak rarely heard since the Clash" (Cleveland Scene). Street Dogs will release their new self-titled album on August 31st. www.myspace.com/streetdogs
Celebrated Bay Area punk legend Matt Freeman of Rancid and Operation Ivy fame will release the long awaited, self-titled debut album for his side project Devils Brigade on August 31 via Hellcat Records. In early 2010, Matt and Tim entered the studio with DJ Bonebrake from the influential punk group X and recorded twelve quick tempered songs featuring Matt's signature, snarling vocals along with his snap, thumping upright bass, which shine through on roots driven punk tracks like "I'm Moving Through," "Who's Gonna Save Your Now" and "My Own Man Now." www.myspace.com/devilsbrigadeofficial - DEWEY BEACH MUSIC CONFERENCE OFFERS FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON INDUSTRY CONFERENCES
Sep 30, 2010
Nestled in the seaside town of Dewey Beach, DE, the Dewey Beach Music Conference (DBMC) packs the punch of a monster music convention into a noticeably smaller radius.
The 2010 edition will take place September 30 through October 2.
As a smaller conference, every detail counts and it is evident in the caliber of talent that has consistently showcased at DBMC in the past five years. "Many of the artists we've selected have gone onto become internationally recognized performers so the level of talent speaks for itself," said Vikki Walls, co-founder and director of the conference.
With a little research, those words ring true as there is a long list of high caliber performers that have graced the DBMC stage, most notably Melody Gardot, Halestorm, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Parachute, and Zach Myers from Shinedown, to name a few.
Equally as impressive is the long list of industry elite who have recently served as panelists and speakers. From Matt Pinfield (Columbia Records, Sirius Radio) and Joe Cuelo (VP of Music Supervision, MTV) to Shelly Yakus (Engineer, Tom Petty, John Lennon) and Paul Reed Smith (Artist and Founder of PRS Guitars), every corner of the music business is covered at DBMC.
Dewey Beach sits on a narrow peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay. The result is a casual, laid-back vibe mirroring a beach vacation. All performance venues are within a few blocks walking distance of the main conference area. No cabs, no hassle, no venues that are hopelessly disconnected from the center of activity. That center of activity, The Rusty Rudder, possesses an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Registrants interact with panelists, speakers, exhibitors, musicians, and professionals from all aspects of the music industry without any pretension.
Registration for DBMC includes full access to panels, mentoring sessions, clinics, demo listening sessions, the trade show exhibit, a conference directory, a compilation CD and goodie bag, and four separate VIP parties where up-and-coming artists and industry experts co-mingle over free food and drink at one of several different outdoor beach clubs. All showcases are free to the public.
