Lonely The Brave share cover of The Walkmen’s “The Rat”

As a band known for picking covers that perhaps people wouldn’t expect from them – Cyndi Lauper, Bjork, Pink Floyd and Antony & The Johnsons some of their previous conquests – “The Rat” is a leftfield take on an already wonderful song by The Walkmen, one that showcases David Jakes’ peerless vocals and one that will hopefully introduce the song to a whole new audience.

Ängie releases new single ‘Spun’

Tearaway Swedish sensation Ängie has returned with her latest single ‘Spun’, out now through Universal.

‘Spun’ premiered with The Guardian who said, “Ängie is an emblem of the liberal-minded revolution… Her sound is a distillation of modern influences. She possesses the poised, pastel aesthetics of Lana Del Rey; the solemnity and sugar-coated sweetness of Kali Uchis; PC Music’s robotic pop sensibilities; and hints at the post-emo “sad lad” rap sentiment spearheaded by fellow Swede Yung Lean, or US misery rappers such as Lil Peep and Yung Goth. She’s cartoonishly playful, with a disconcerting darkness rippling underneath.”

OHHMS debut new song “The Magician” on Terrorizer!

Vocalist Paul Waller tells us more about their anti-establishment new song:

“We have tackled the subject of GMOs contaminating the food we eat on our debut EP in the song ‘Bad Seeds’, which highlighted corporate greed and the huge amounts of cash that can be saved by cutting corners. I was shocked that the information was out there in the public domain, and yet we just ignore it and continue to eat poisons day after day.

Musically, it was the first ‘fast’ song that we had ever written, although in reality its pretty much mid-paced and even though it lasts a little over eight minutes in total, I only managed to fit in one verse, one middle eight and a killer chorus at the end. It’s all it needed. It’s disgusting and angry enough, so any more riffs or anymore vocals would have been sensory overload.”

Joey LaBeija – ‘XXXcuse Me’

After the dark twisted period of his life exemplified in his mini album ‘Shattered Dreams’; Joey Labeija is back with his chaotic and euphoric EP, ‘Violator’, due on March 23. After leaving the ever draining and all consuming city of New York temporarily, LaBeija has returned a born again raver.

The Bronx born and bread DJ and producer constructs cacophonies that are both playful and deceivingly humorous. Though we have had those moments in the past, we were always restricted for various reasons. Those barriers are gone now, and that allowed us to create the record the way we wanted. This album is The Letter Black. For the first time, I feel we have successfully delivered the most honest and true music in the band’s history” recalls Mark.

NPR First Listen streams Jacaszek’s ‘KWIATY’ in full

“KWIATY strives to locate beauty in desolation. These aren’t the kaleidoscopic gardens of Victorian manners. They’re the dried petals inside old acrylic paperweights, their life cycles frozen in time.” – NPR

Michal Jacaszek, the Polish composer who’s spun dramatic shades of darkness and light into gold for more than a decade now, from the trickle-down electronics of Treny and artful gloom of Glimmer to the vapor-trailed verses of their looming spiritual cousin of the forthcoming album KWIATY (meaning “flowers” in Polish), recently found inspiration in a 17th century English anthology of metaphysical poetry that informed the latter. As a follow up to 2011’s Glimmer, where nostalgia/classical music/and Tim Hecker influences were apparent, it is Jacaszek’s most rhapsodic release yet. NPR First Listen is streaming in full ahead of its March 17th release on Ghostly International, and it’s clear that the plowing through those weathered pages resulted in a discovery of inspired source material.

Buffalo Black is preparing to release his anticipated EP “Black Market” in April.

UNTIL RAIN Signs To Sensory Records

Greek progressive/alternative metal outfit UNTIL RAIN has signed with Sensory Records for the release of their impending third full-length, Inure. The band has issued some insight into the album, releasing a dramatic trailer, as well as the album art, track listing, and more. Additionally, the band has scheduled both European mainland and Balkan tours in conjunction with the album’s release.

Inure was recorded by UNTIL RAIN in various European cities, including Thessaloniki, London, Gothenburg, and Lausanne, and mixed/mastered by Daniel Cardoso of Anathema in Lisbon, Portugal (Anneke Van Giersbergen, Anathema, Head Control System). The album features beautiful artwork by the new Greek artist/designer Nassia Kefala, and a hand-drawn cover that completely represents the concept of the album and the duality of many inured people; appearing lush on the outside, yet they are rotted inside. With nine massive tracks, Inure presents an hour-long journey that you will want to take again and again, the digital release bearing an additional bonus track as well.
