Chino XL and Rama Duke “Under The Bridge”

It is hardly commonplace for hip-hop and rock to become bonded bedfellows. And it takes a crafty vision to mesh the disparate musical species in a way that begets fire and ice in a single song.

“Under the Bridge,” the 1992 global hit from Red Hot Chili Peppers, is a moody, potent exposè about alienation, despondency and the search for one’s truth. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis penned the platinum-selling song as he found redemption on the other side of addiction. Who can forget the indelible chorus: “I don’t ever want to feel, like I did that day/Take me to the place I love, take me all the way.”

Yawn Mower was formed in the summer of 2015 by Mike Chick (guitar, vox) and Biff Swenson (drums, vox) after their past projects had played together frequently over the years. The idea was simple, make fuzzy surfy good time tunes while having a blast doing it. The band has played with Mothers (Wichita Recordings), Screaming Females (Don Giovanni Records), Parlor Mob (Roadrunner Records), The Jigsaw Seen (Burger Records) and have performed at Convention Hall on Halloween, as well as The Stone Pony on New Years Eve. IRONTOM TO JOIN RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS’ ARENA TOUR

We’re just a few weeks into 2017 and LA-based rock band IRONTOM have already landed an arena tour, put the finishing touches on their full-length debut and released two new songs and a video. The news started when multi-Grammy winners the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced that they’re taking IRONTOM on the road for a string of arena dates that begin on May 11th at the Paints Arena in Pittsburgh and run through May 29th at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary (see itinerary below). It’s an understatement to call it exciting news for the band, who cite the Chili Peppers as one of their musical influences.

“It’s difficult to measure just how much of an impact and influence they’ve had on us as a group,” says IRONTOM vocalist Harry Hayes. “It’s an unbelievable honor and we’re so excited to get to open for them – they’re truly a great rock and roll band.”

CURBSIDE DRIVE ‘OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW’ – EP

Starting off as a not so secret band within a band, three dudes assembled and bonded over their love of punk rock. Keeping the cliché alive, Jack, Danyon and Zac jammed to poorly recorded drum tracks on Youtube in a small study turned studio room, nicknamed “the toaster shack oven”. Never being able to start simultaneously with the internet, Youtube was easily replaced with the arrival of Jedd who completed Curbside Drive.

The Perth based band have been leaving their mark on the local scene through their ’90s punk inspired riffs accompanied by their happy sad lyrics. Being described as pop punk, punk rock and even grunge at times, Curbside Drive are channeling their inner awkwardness and insecurities through their upcoming debut EP, ‘Outside Your Window’. Recorded and produced by John Prosser of Vision Studios in their hometown of Perth and mastering done by James Newhouse of Reel2reel Studios, the EP leaves listeners with powerful driven chords, highlighting short catchy riffs whilst sneaky bass riffs linger beneath it all.

Mr Easy “Gone A Lead”

Mr Easy is a man over-flowing with music and melodies that deal with the more harmonious aspects of life and living. He was born in the verdant, undulating hills of the Cockpit Country. THE DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

After refusing big and prestigious awards all over the world, Mr. Mantovani, Literature Nobel Prize winner, accepts an invitation to visit his hometown in Argentina, which has been the inspiration for all of his books. It turns out that accepting this invitation is the worse idea of his life. Expect the unexpected when you have used real people as characters in your novels!

Toni M. Mir started studying piano at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona when he was 6 years old. Ever since then, music has been the passion of his life.

In 1993 Toni started working in a studio specialised in music and sound for advertising, where he worked for over 10 years composing music for the advertising world. Since then, his career

has revolved around composing for images whilst his true vocation is music for cinema.

Sydney via East London scuzz-pop quartet Splashh have shared the video for “Waiting A Lifetime”, premiering on Pilerats. The track is lifted from their forthcoming sophomore album of the same name, set for release on April 14 via Cinematic Music Group.

Directed by one of the bands’ masterminds Toto Vivian, the video is a dizzying visual recount of the bands’ recent experiences – on the road, in the studio, backstage, on stage, eating pizza. Evoking a similar headspin to their last clip, “Rings”, the videos together serve as an indicator as to what listeners can expect from the upcoming full-length release – chaotic rhythms, manic guitars and swerving melodies, rinsed through with the reverby post-punk attitude that characterises the Splashh sound.

David Bazan’s new album, ‘Care’

During transition, there is the urge to look backwards to figure out where we are supposed to go. It can be nostalgic; the golden haze that surrounds our selective memory. Sweet moments that make up our individual narratives, or the stories we tell each other to reinforce our collective identity.

But that glance backwards can distract us from where we are now and what it really means; from the sea change, from the tide that sweeps what we know away and leaves us unencumbered, shivering, and beginning again.

Vokab Kompany & 9 Theory – ‘Beneath The Shallow’

High energy, synth driven hip-hop group Vokab Kompany, and indietronica vocalist/producer 9 Theory bring us Beneath The Shallow. This collaborative two track EP sounds like the intersection of Radiohead and Outkast. While Vokab Kompany is often known for their intense live show and dance party flow, the subject matter here is much more intense and personal.

Beneath the Shallow is a direct response to the vibe and superficiality that can often permeate the mainstream festival circuit, particularly throughout the last decade and the rise of EDM. The EP tackles the intense and all too human issues of depression and drug abuse.

Not one to ever rest on his laurels, SUMMERS launched a prolific solo career that continues to this day, positioning him on the cutting edge of musical innovation – all the while following his passion for music as he keeps diligently busy writing, touring and recording in the studio. As a guitarist, songwriter and composer, his 14th solo album, TRIBOLUMINESCENCE (set for release by Flickering Shadow Productions on March 24, available on all digital platforms in the U.S. and via Amazon and Cargo Records in the U.K.), proves to be his most introspective work to date and is a collection of nine new tracks reflecting the style that Summers has evocatively dubbed “New Exotic.”

Decibel spills forth “Chalice Of Pus” from the LP, adjoined by an interrogation of Martinez-Hoadley and Osterhout. The mag calls out the record’s, “ungodly morbid destruction,” continuing, “Whether rending limbs with trem-picked, blastbeat-riddled dirges reminiscent of old school NYDM, or pummeling your brainmeat until it bruises and calcifies into something like caveman coprolite, a la early Grave, EXTREMITY clearly know their way around death metal.”

That’s the beautiful thing about art, it may come from where you least expect it.”

Berdmajik Premieres Effervescent New Track, ‘The First Time’

The man behind Berdmajik, Donnie Felton, is best known for his work with psych-surf-indie cult favorites Grubby Little Hands. Berdmajik’s debut album, SPELLS, sounds like a distant relative to his previous outfit – a psychedelic second cousin, twice removed. Felton’s airy pop instincts merge with melancholy vocals in a sweet/savory axis. Utilizing the same soul-steeped pop songwriting that has always been simmering just beneath the surface of Felton’s earlier efforts, as Berdmajik those undertones come frothing over.

TW Walsh’s Terrible Freedom LP out 04/28

Terrible Freedom is an album about fear and liberation, space and time, the self and the mind. Its themes are existential and broad, but they also characterize the cultural and political dumpster fire in which we find ourselves engulfed today. Walsh grew up in Reagan’s America (The New Cold War, the AIDS crisis, trickle-down economics, The War on Drugs), so Trump’s chaotic presidency is familiar territory.

If Terrible Freedom has a message, it’s to cultivate compassion and courage. If you can muster the strength, simply lean into the fear. All things must pass. Whatever comes, just let it arrive.
