Yalee “Friends With Benefits”

NPR Music shares Lusine’s euphoric “Slow Motion”

“I suppose the concept behind Sensorimotor pulls from a special kind of double meaning of the word,” Jeff McIlwain aka Lusine reveals. “The literal, to me, is the integration of your senses with actions, like with birds and how they move so fluidly in flocks. It’s just fascinating how their brains are able to comprehend such quick actions collectively at once.”

With an introspective turn that’s hinted at in the record title, Lusine’s fourth album for Ghostly — Sensorimotor, set for a March 3rd release date — sees McIlwain diffusing the pop-leanings of 2013’s The Waiting Room with opaque, brush-stroked melodies washing over these new buoyant productions. The album’s first tracks — “Just a Cloud” and “Won’t Forget” — showed his deft touch at weaving in Vilja Larjosto’s vocals with his production techniques. “Slow Motion,” premiering today via NPR Music, is an instrumental cut where McIlwain is the sole focus. The tracks builds into an euphoric climax, with melodies that hook into the sense.

Slingshot Dakota announces ‘Broken EP’

Carly Commando, keys and vocals says this of the track:

“I wrote “Grudge” as an ode to all of my experiences in which I have been written off, ignored, spoken over, steamrolled and treated unfairly because of my gender. This song is a way to share this anger with others who feel alienated, whether it’s in their music communities or elsewhere, so that we realize we aren’t alone. I’ve learned to cut toxic people out of my life and to spend less energy on situations that make me unhappy, but I am still constantly battling inequality in the scene I spend most of my time in. This song means as much to me now as it did when I wrote it.”
