Xylouris White Share “Forging” Video on WNYC: Soundcheck

Xylouris White have announced upcoming US tour dates on the back of their stunning sophomore album Black Peak, out now on Bella Union. To celebrate they have shared a new video for “Forging”, courtesy of The Practice Tapes.

When Xylouris White recorded their second album, this most intuitive and inquisitive of duos did what comes naturally to them: expanded their horizons. For George Xylouris, the Cretan lute player who partners here with the Dirty Three’s preternaturally fluent Australian drummer Jim White, one aim was to extend a core metaphor of their ruggedly visionary debut album, 2014’s Goats. “Like goats walking in the mountain” is Xylouris’ poetic analogy for their approach: “They may not know the place, but they can walk easily and take risks and feel comfortable. Really, the goats inspired us.”

Seattle’s Shelby Earl shares first single from new LP

Shelby Earl’s first two albums earned the kind of raves any musician would kill for. Upon hearing her 2011 debut, Burn the Boats, NPR’s Ann Powers called Earl her “new favorite songwriter,” and she wasn’t alone. Accolades followed from Rolling Stone to the Wall Street Journal and a million music sites in between that positioned her somewhere to the left of Neko Case, a few blocks from Sharon Van Etten, catercorner to Angel Olsen. She toured everywhere, playing with the likes of Loudon Wainwright, Rhett Miller, and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, who spoke for many people when he said Earl had “the most heartbreakingly beautiful voice in Seattle.”

KREYSKULL Introduce Us To The ‘Cosmic Scavenger’ – Official Video Release

A beautiful, discordant slab of demented doom bliss. This is the first chance to hear material from The Bird Of Bad Weather, the upcoming album by Finnish doom rockers Kreyskull …and boy, it’s a doozy. The track Cosmic Scavenger is everything you could want from the band and a whole lot more. This song is twisted, churning, heavy and when a saxophone improbably wanders around over the finishing (no pun intended) stretch, we’ve definitely hit cosmic! The lyrics are an ode to science fiction/conspiracy theories, telling us “if you know too much…you`ll simply disappear” and the video adds another layer of wit to the proceeding without taking anything away from the sheer power and coolness of the tune.

The driving beats of the chorus and darker harmonies called for lyrical content that was strong and assertive, and challenged the listener to think beyond the obvious ideas and sets of imagery being used.

Wolf) and savouring the freedom and license to express herself fully. ‘Awake Me’ is her enchanting new single and it showcases all her talents with aplomb. From the swirling ambience permeating the track to the tender plucked arpeggio, Rosie proves a deft hand at creating sublime tonal flourishes to compliment her vivid imagistic lyrics and enchanting voice.

Thad Kopec announces ‘The Shadow and the Caster,’ premieres gorgeous orchestral track “Second Best”

Thad Kopec’s particular style of baroque pop is rooted in the imaginative power of the night. During his formative years on a farm in Central Florida, frequent bouts of insomnia brought him into contact with the ambiguity of darkness. His songwriting voice, born in wakeful solitude and proximity to the dream-state, reckons with the mysteries of night that we find in the fabric of everyday life.

While he shares an intuitive lean with influences like Joanna Newsom and The National, Kopec experiments with a spectrum of sound and poetic image all his own; cryptic lyrics around his internal history and dense, restless composition add up to surprising emotional clarity and accessibility.

Constraint is released in CD, digital and vinyl formats on April 7, 2017.

Combining a shattered mirror of cold, metallic samples with a longing chorus and rousing hand claps, “Ovation” is ostensibly a pop song about sex, chopped and screwed into something far more visceral and sweaty than your average pop song about sex. It’s Salem meets FKA twigs meets Sky Ferreira, arriving as an animalistic riposte to the tension of the rest of the album.

‘Flexin’ On ‘Em: Brooklyn’s Flex Dance Music’ A Documentary Film

Flex Dance Music is Brooklyn’s own dance music. What began as a type of music accompanying flexing — a dance style originating from Brooklyn characterized by elements including bone breaking, gliding, and pausing — has in recent years progressed into a distinct genre. Inspired by the original essence of flex music, which began as dense dancehall mixes with layers of riddims and sound effects, producers have begun writing original compositions with booming 808s and chopped vocal samples.

Song: Ralo – “I Hope It Don’t Jam” ft. 21 Savage and Jefé

A rising young artist and a respected hustler on the Atlanta streets, Ralo has the trap game on lock. Flexing his helium-pitched flow over a haunting trap instrumental, Ralo fights for survival on “I Hope It Don’t Jam,” his latest single. Premiered by PUB, “I Hope It Don’t Jam” boasts a menacing hook and typically intense verse from 21 Savage, and a high-energy guest appearance from D.C.-raised barker Jefé (formerly Shy Glizzy). Another paranoid banger from the FamGoon general, “I Hope It Don’t Jam” is the latest single from Ralo’s upcoming Famerican Gangster 2, following the Gucci Mane-featured, FADER-premiered “They Can’t Stop Us,” and “Young N*gga,” which boasts appearances from Young Thug, Lil Yachty, and Lil Uzi Vert and garnered over 109,000 plays on SoundCloud since its debut last week.

BOKITO release belting debut single ‘Better At Getting Worse’

Though an unequivocal dancehall classic, a booming amalgam of Afro-funk and indie, ‘Better At Getting Worse’ is something of a cautionary insight to the male psyche. Frontman Moses explains: “The song is primarily aimed at men and their own handling of their emotions… and how useless most of them are at it. But we men are talented at one thing, which is suppressing everything and moulding it into a smile.” Indeed, one listen to ‘Better At Getting Worse’ and it’s hard not to crack a grin the size of an alpine crevasse, right from the song’s swirling organ-and-guitar refrain soaring across an angular calypso rhythm, to its absolutely astral chorus, a spine-tingler of a hook that finds Moses proclaiming “Everyone thinks I’m better but really I’m just getting better… better at getting worse”. Produced by Bradley Spencer and Alex Beitzke in London’s Fish Tank studios, and mastered by legendary Grammy-nominated engineer Greg Calbi, ‘Better At Getting Worse’ is a characteristically compelling first salvo from a band who have a rich seam of ready singles in waiting.

HEATH GREEN AND THE MAKESHIFTERS NEW SELF-TITLED DEBUT STUDIO ALBUM

You would think that with all of the attention being paid to the resurgence of Alabama soul music that someone like Heath Green would surely be on the radar of every A&R guy out of Nashville by now, yet for someone who has been quietly plying his trade for well over 15 years, Mr. Green has somehow managed to avoid the spotlight due to a lifetime of patience, hard luck and working man’s caution. As a longtime fixture on the Birmingham music scene through groups like Mudpie, Fishergreen, and the Back Row Baptists, Green has carved out a reputation as one of the finest songwriters and performers around, combining gritty storytelling born out of the dirt and red clay of his home state with an electric delivery that’s on par with the best soul men of the modern era. Having toiled countless hours at dive bars and late-night haunts that have served as the real-time backdrop for his ongoing musical canvas, Green’s penchant for “tell it like it is” songwriting has made him a favorite among local scenesters in the Magic City music community, weaving tried and true tales of desperation, redemption and devil-may-care attitude into a cohesive whole worthy of Delta blues relics twice his age.

Stories Through Storms Premieres Party Song ‘Jog On’

The band shares, “We wanted to write a song that was different from our usually personal tracks but we wanted to make sure you still felt something when you heard it. Our music is usually very serious and heart felt but every now and then you have to kick back and have fun and that’s what we did making ‘Jog On.’ We had a bunch of friends come in and hang out to do shouts with us and it was a blast. All the talking you hear in the background is us hanging out with our friends. It is our party song. You can feel how much fun we had making this track. That’s what music is about for us. We want to spark a feeling with every track.”

IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS: Decibel Magazine Streams First New Single

Ain-Soph Aur, the long-anticipated new studio offering from Denver doom duo IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS, will see independent release next month.

In advance of its release, today Decibel Magazine is spotlighting closing track “Limitless Light.”
“‘Limitless Light’ is probably the heaviest thing we’ve written to date,” comments vocalist Grant Netzorg, “and it’s my favorite track off the new record. It’s a very cathartic and often painful song for me to play live. Thematically, this song deals with striving to realize the true version of one’s self, the self that is who we essentially are at the core of our beings when all other baggage we acquire in life is stripped away. It is that true and beautiful version of ourselves that we must take every effort to honor and act upon, and it is a lifelong pursuit. This song has a strong melancholy to it, because I know that in many ways I have personally failed in this endeavor, whether through personal or professional obligations, or in the simple reality of how our society operates. Nonetheless it is an immense goal worthy of constant and continued effort, regardless of any personal setbacks I have encountered on the path there, and I intend to keep chasing that ideal.”
