SKOPE NEWS FOR JANUARY 10, 2017

Video premiere: NeroArgento “Kill The Lies”

Swamp blues meets electro-rock with a psuedo-dubstep chorus and modern pop-tinged female backing vocals. Yes, it’s a brand new track called Kill The Lies and a major departure for NeroArgento with a spicy taster from his upcoming solo album. The video is equally genre unspecific, with imagery to confuse and delight, which all blends into the unique world that NeroArgento is creating.

U2: THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2017

Live Nation today announced that U2 will return to select stadiums this year with U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the band’s classic album. Each show will include a performance of The Joshua Tree in its entirety, with support from one of a number of special guests including Mumford & Sons, OneRepublic and The Lumineers in North America and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in Europe.

Released to universal acclaim on March 9th 1987 and featuring hit singles “With Or Without You”,”I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”, The Joshua Tree was U2’s first #1 album in the U.S., topping the charts globally including the U.K. and Ireland, selling in excess of 25 million albums worldwide, and catapulting Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr “… from heroes to superstars” (Rolling Stone). Time Magazine put U2 on its cover in April 1987, proclaiming them “Rock’s Hottest Ticket” in a defining year for the band that saw their arena dates roll into stadium shows to accommodate escalating demand – setting them on course to become one of the greatest live acts in the world today. The 12 months that followed saw the band create now-iconic moments: the traffic-stopping Grammy Award-winning music video on the roof of a Los Angeles liquor store, winning a BRIT Award and two Grammys – including Album of the Year – their first of 22 received to date, distinguishing U2 as the most awarded rock band in Grammy history.

Fat Heaven Debut LP “Tough Luck”

Fat Heaven has been generating massive amounts of hype with their special brand of pop punk rock nostalgia. They were hailed by NOISEY for their “DIY spit-shine that will have you dreaming of a workplace where you can pogo-dance to your heart’s content” and were similarly lauded by The Dying Scene for a single that was “upbeat and catchy as hell!” (the single “In My Head”).

Now, Fat Heaven finally releases their LP Tough Luck — a 12-track master work where every track burns with the fiery intensity of its genre’s most prominent anthems. Compared to Green Day and NOFX by NOISEY, Fat Heaven mercifully returns us to the peaks of punk greatness amidst a musical world overloaded with electronic dance. Relentless guitars dominate the soundscape, along with the fierce and inimitable Gayla Brooks on drums, all of which comes together with bold ferocity. Each track is short and to the point, each screaming at an apex that never surrenders a single moment to denouement.

On Tough Luck, Fat Heaven’s accomplishment is the return to a fondly missed classic punk rock sound that they have captured effortlessly and authentically. For the entire duration, the band never allows their sound to settle for even a moment as anything less than awesome.

Video: JR Donato – “Can’t Tell Me Nothin”

Blessed with a prodigious gift for rhyming, Chicago North-Sider J.R. Donato is a veteran in the rap game at only 23 years of age. Cementing his place in the scene, Donato stunts in his leaned-out “Can’t Tell Me Nothin” visual, which is from the Taylor Gang member’s 2016 Why So Serious? mixtape. Directed by Cole Bennett of Lyrical Lemonade, “Can’t Tell Me Nothin” has J.R. Donato mobbing with his crew and laying down rhymes over a piano-laden beat. “I got money, you can’t tell me nothin/ no discussion, you can’t tell me nothin.”

J.R. Donato started rapping in his early teens, earning a local hit at age 13 under the name Young JR. During his junior year of high school, Donato supported Twista on a regional tour and eventually caught the ear of Wiz Khalifa, who featured J.R. on his Cabin Fever 2 mixtape and later signed him to Taylor Gang Entertainment. Though Taylor Gang’s recent TGOD Vol. 1 collaborative mixtape features a tracklist loaded with stars such as Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and Ty Dolla $ign, the Gang demonstrated their confidence in the young rapper when they chose his “All Winter” banger as the first track on the project.

“I still believe in the promise of rock ‘n’ roll, and our aim is to remind people it’s out there,” says Petree. “One of the most consistent comments I get from people who see us play live is that, as a band, we go for broke. Phoebe Bridgers Announces New Single “Smoke Signals”

The spellbinding ache you hear when Phoebe Bridgers sings belies the fact that she’s still just 22. In “Smoke Signals,” her haunting vocals anchor lyrical references to Thoreau, The Smiths, Bowie, Motörhead, and Holiday Inn in a five-and-a-half minute kiss-off to a generally cataclysmic 2016. A wounded love song Bridgers wrote in a cabin outside Ketchum, Idaho, last spring, the track is filled with billowing strings, reverb-drenched guitar, and the unshakable sensation of hearing an artist whose songs will end up in a listener’s head for days. “Smoke Signals” will also appear on her forthcoming debut album.

SCHILLER “Not In Love (with Arlissa)”

‘Future’ is an appropriate title for this innovative masterpiece by one of Electronic Music’s most fascinating artists. Mixing intoxicating and exciting sounds with timeless intensity, each song has its own cinematic quality to experience. Schiller describes the album as a movie soundtrack, taking listeners on a sonic-journey through moods, feelings, and landscapes. ‘Future’ is the ideal album to escape from everyday life and immerse oneself in dreams of the “future.” Dreamscape melodies and artful arrangements create an extraordinary experience with compositions of epic power and breathtaking fragility. “Time flies so fast, and the future is so precious, whether it is the future as a feeling of life or whether we feel our own grit… I would be happy if ‘Future’ can provide the soundtrack for this journey,” says Schiller.

It’s really thanks to the passion of our users that we have been able to catalog the world’s music. The real thanks belong to all the contributors out there that help give people access to music across the planet.”

Imaginary Tricks Announce Debut LP ‘Skommel’ Out 3/24/17

Queens, NY’s Imaginary Tricks – a/k/a singer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Visser, formerly of Sacramento, CA band Frank Jordan – will release his debut album Skommel on March 24, 2017 via Friendship Fever, a new Sacramento-based label distributed by House Arrest/Fat Possum. First single “Bird” premiered today via Stereogum, which wrote it’s “…a head-nodding, slow-building rock song that feels soft and pretty despite Visser’s impassioned vocal and the steady rhythmic pounding that carries it along”:

Skyway Man shares sci-fi short film for first track off Feb. 10 album at Stereogum

“The album is a collection of intergalactic roots music marked by his interest in UFO religion, so it’s only fitting that director Drew Bourdet’s video ‘Creation // Someday’ feels like a supernatural vision among misty mountains that don’t feel entirely of this planet. The song itself is spare and angelic, like Jim James’ spirit leaving his body or an old country ballad ascending into the same celestial space where Radiohead’s ‘Motion Picture Soundtrack’ exists in perpetuity.”
– Chris DeVille, Stereogum

Jasper X “Whirl Music”

“The idea of “Whirl Music” was to capture a blur of past moments in one’s emotional life,” Jasper X, the New Jersey-based project frontman, explains. “Our memories are often blurred snapshots of multiple moments that we think of from time to time, like being a whirl of thoughts. The initial chord progression is the foundation of the song along with the driving kick drum on the downbeat. The idea was to create modest builds and colors around that foundation and what came out was a positive sonic vibe that crescendos into the instrumental outro.”

Then based in the notorious Skid Row district of Los Angeles, ‘Testimony’ communicated a lifetime of struggle through ambitious, grime-cum-rap beat abstractions that, although rough and scorn, were rooted in heavyset emotional trauma. “This is just me channelling stuff – it’s not beat making, it’s not grime or hip hop or whatever, it’s just me”, Letta said after submitting the final tracklist in July 2015.
