Henry Jamison drops debut single ‘Real Peach’

Assuming that a pedigree in such things has any relevance at all, which is certainly unclear, Henry Jamison was perhaps predisposed to songwriting. His great-great-great-great-great-great-great (etc.) grandfather was the 14th century poet John Gower (friend to Chaucer and Richard II) and his great-great-great-great grandfather was George Frederick Root, the most popular songwriter of the Civil War era. Probably more relevant is that his mother is an English professor and his father a classical composer, who gave him a Korg 8-track recorder and his first guitar.

Performers

Peter Bjorn and John’s new video is a giant game of human Dominos

Peter Bjorn and John chose to go the very, very literal route when creating their music video for “Dominos.”

The bouncy, Paul Epworth-produced track — off their June album, Breakin’ Point — is about when “everybody goes like dominos” and the clip is quite literally a giant game of human dominos, following a seemingly endless line of people falling on one another through the streets of Stockholm. It’s a pretty captivating thing to watch, kind of like a Rube Goldberg machine, but, you know, with humans.

Or, as the Swedish indie rockers put it, “it’s a chain reaction!”

Bubbles Brown Premieres “Sundance” Via Austin Town Hall

Bubbles Brown is a two-piece early blues outfit from Chicago, IL. Bubbles (Guitar, Vocals) and Washboard Ben (Percussion, Vocals) cut their teeth on the blues deep in the subways of Chicago, busking for change and the occasional dollar. Using only a guitar, washboard, sock cymbal, assorted percussion and a suitcase bass drum, the duo and their lean, archaic setup evoke the homespun, kitchen-sink aesthetic of rural, pre-war blues and country, while blending into it an aggressive and modern electricity to create a sound at-once both nostalgic and distinctly progressive. The Bubbles Brown sound defies expectations, and their rich and reverent brand of the blues, country and jazz of the 20s and 30s greatly exceeds the sum of its parts, transforming stages of any size into roadside juke joints and skeptics into believers.

GARY NESTA PINE TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

Gary Nesta Pine has been inspired by, and devoted to, music for as long as he can remember. “I’m a messenger from Jah. My dad was a postman; I feel like I am the postman of music.” The impact reggae has had on his life, and him on its sound, can’t be understated. They’re so intertwined that it’s hard to imagine Jamaican roots reggae without the passion of Gary Nesta Pine.

Pine first came on to the scene in 1989 as lead singer for City Heat, one of Jamaica’s most in-demand bands. Performing at hotels for eager tourists who would bring home a copy of their CD as a souvenir, Pine and City Heat were in demand to bring their ample talents to the US, where they toured with legendary dancehall artist, Super Cat. Being in America gave Pine the impetus to help develop the New York City roots reggae scene, taking it out of the underground and pushing to move it into the foreground. In 1998, like an anointment from the reggae gods, Pine became the lead singer for the Wailers. The legendary band, which performed and created hit after hit with Bob Marley, changed the face of music – not just reggae – forever. As such, Pine played an integral part in one of the most influential movements in music history.

Los Angeles producer Adult Karate’s ‘LXII’ streams at Big Shot Magazine

Adult Karate is KC Maloney, half of the gauze-and-gossamer duo Radar Cult. Though Radar Cult’s sound is fairly spartan, Adult Karate takes the use of empty space even further, hollowing out the skeleton of electronic music- house, techno, ambient—until only the memory is left. These songs are imprints on an empty bed, images on a burial shroud; a wisp of something gone, its impression indelible. Recently signed to Los Angeles-based label Plug Research (Flying Lotus, Bilal, Dntel), he comes to the label building in intensity his cryptic ruminations, diffused into a sea-spray of synth decay, sparse percussion, pitched-down vocals, and Spaghetti western guitar.

Premiere: Adult Karate – LXII EP

Alt Pop Band Lavoy Release Feel Good Music Video for Upbeat Single “Smile”

“We really wanted to make a video that displayed some of the beauty of the pacific Northwest and we also wanted to involve our friends,” singer Tyrell L. Tompkins explained. “We feel like Spokane’s beauty gets overlooked and we wanted to display that but really didn’t have any specific ideas at the time. We had our good friend who directed and shot the video tell us that he felt like ‘Smile’ was such a happy song that it needed to be a video that felt free and careless and could really display some cool parts of the area without focusing on it too much and that the best way to display that feeling was to have a bunch of our friends come out and dance and just have a good time. We’re very proud of it and wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without such good friends and their influence.”

Night Argent Cinematic Music Video For “Widowmaker”

In the video, it’s every man for himself as Night Argent tries to desperately get away from the demonic “Widowmaker.” The band filmed this set across several scenic locations on their way to SXSW (Bonneville Salt Flats UT, Coyote Buttes AZ, Hoh Rainforest WA), melted equipment, staged a fight scene on top of a canyon (and yes that’s real blood), and were even detained by authorities on set! I am confident your readers will appreciate the hands-on filmmaking experience of the video as well as the DIY story behind-the-scenes and would love if you would share the video or work with us on a feature to bring more attention to their work.
