SKOPE NEWS FOR JUNE 22, 2016

DRAKKAR NOWHERE SHARE “HIGHER NOW”

When Drakkar Nowhere rows itself out toward the exploratory sonic sea upon which their debut album so gracefully sails, it’s not just that their destination is undefined; it’s that the very concept of a destination, as reflected in their music, is itself something indefinable. Drakkar Nowhere capture the wind in their sails with a sound that’s boundless, expansive and, perhaps, guided only by the light of the sun and stars.

ANTHRAX “ZERO TOLERANCE”

Celebrating 35 years as a band, 2016 is proving to be a very good time for thrash/metal icons Anthrax, and the festivities are intensifying. First, today Anthrax is releasing the third lyric video from their new album For All Kings, this one for the track “Zero Tolerance.” The song closes the album and its message is very personal and particularly timely in today’s society, with the horrific rise in mass shootings and other forms of terrorism. In the words of Anthrax lyricist Scott Ian, “‘Zero Tolerance’ sums it all up. It’s about doing anything to protect your small circle of family and friends from the insanity of the world.” Check out the lyric video for “Zero Tolerance” here:

KING 810 REVEAL “CARVE MY NAME” OFFICIAL VIDEO

Roadrunner Records group, KING 810, have released an official music video for “Carve My Name” taken from their debut LP MEMOIRS OF A MURDERER. The video, which is streaming now on KING 810’s official YouTube Channel, is a collection of artwork and photographs from the band’s dedicated fan base known as The Family. The clip serves as a photobook to look back on as both the band and the community that surrounds them grow over the years. MEMOIRS OF A MURDERER is available at KING 810’s webstore and at all DSPs.

“KYLIE JENNER”

The last time 300’s T-Wayne name dropped in a song, it made national news and gave Colts Kicker Adam Vinatieri an ego boost. Kylie Jenner hardly needs that type of boost of course but this ode to the Kardashian’s smokin lil sis will certainly not hurt her feelings either.

APHEX TWIN NEW VIDEO

We are pleased to announce Aphex Twin’s first official music video in 17 years for the track CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ].

Aphex Twin and Warp Records commissioned 12 year old Dublin resident Ryan Wyer to create the video for the track from the forthcoming Cheetah EP, after Aphex Twin discovered Wyer’s work through his YouTube channel epic1:40d Gaming.

“THE ROAD” VIDEO

Cincinnati pop n’ roll act Automagik just released the video “The Road,” the title track of their new EP (out now via Old Flame Records).

The video premiered at Popmatters, who said “‘The Road’ grooves hard, putting a seriously killer bassline behind a guitar straight out of Jack White’s kit and just a touch of disco influence. It’s also high-energy, enjoying itself in a way that White would never be caught dead doing. Jangly keys, seemingly mis-mastered vocals, and the gorilla suit inject some levity into a genre whose stoicism can be frustrating. It rocks, but it’s also fun, and it bridges some necessary gaps between snarling guitars and goofy stage presence.”

MUSIC FOR ALL 2016

Central Indiana will again host the largest national weeklong summer music camp for students and teachers, June 27-July 2 at Ball State University in Muncie. Music for All, one of the nation’s largest and most influential organizations in support of music education, will return to Muncie for the sixth summer with its Music for All Summer Symposium, presented by Yamaha. Ball State University is not only the host, but now a corporate sponsor of Music for All, recently announcing a sponsorship agreement in place through 2023.

More than 1,500 high school and middle school band and orchestra students and high school and middle school band directors are expected at the 41st annual Symposium. The full week camp is June 27-July 2. The Symposium also offers a weekend of student leadership training June 25-26. This year marks the largest MFA camp since 2007.

The Symposium typically brings together student musicians and educators from as many as 35 states and abroad. Students learn from top music educators in tracks that include concert band, marching band, jazz band, orchestra, percussion, color guard, drum major, and, new to the Symposium this year, middle school concert band. High school and middle school band directors and instructors can choose from several educators’ tracks that hone their professional skills. ONE DAY WAITING NEW VIDEO

Alt-metal quartet One Day Waiting has released the first single/music video, “Dying for the Truth”, off of their sophomore EP, Mouthbreather.

“Dying for the Truth” is about people who blindly follow other people, trends and whats currently popular in society. These kinds of people base their lives off the opinion of others, but can’t form an opinion of their own. They often contradict what they do and what they say, like a man who bosses his workers around for slacking off, yet the boss is doing exactly that. I believe the music video delivers that message in both a serious and comedic way. – Tyler Kray

“MY WAY” VIDEO

Canadian Heavy Pop band Black Swan Theory has released the high energy music video for their newest single, “My Way.” While the single was produced and mixed by producer Erik Ron, the band members directed and shot the impressively spirited music video themselves.

NO JOY NEW SINGLE

Stop trying to define No Joy. In 6 years the noisy Montreal quartet has released a compelling and critically acclaimed discography and shared the stage with some of this decade’s most influential acts. Yet no one can quite figure this band out.

Tagging No Joy as “shimmery infectious dream pop” doesn’t work since the band’s live shows are so brutal that it has them sharing the stage with bands like Deafheaven and Fucked Up. Classifying them as “doom shoegaze” doesn’t work either since the band has created records so complex and sonically mature they transcend genres. Nostalgic yet new, loud yet quiet; No Joy’s conflicting reputation cannot be classified because it’s in constant evolution.

BASTILLE UNVEILS SURREAL “GOOD GRIEF” VIDEO

The video for Bastille’s new single, “Good Grief,” premiered today on VEVO. A rollercoaster of humor, fear and color, it evokes that uncomfortable feeling of being stuck down the rabbit hole within a rabbit hole, the endless sequence of images that make up our dreams.
