WATCHING FOR FOXES RELEASE FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

“This project was really a labor of love for us,” frontman Joey Frendo explained. “We spent a ton of time crafting this album, from track sequencing and album art, to rehashing old songs and creating new ones, and we hope that hard work and attention to detail really shines through. The band has a belief about how albums should be a sonic experience on their own, a cohesive piece of art that impacts the listener.”
MOON BROS NEW SINGLE
Fans of Ryley Walker (they used to be roommates in Chicago!) and William Tyler will find something to love on this album, and Tortoise enthusiasts will be intrigued by his rise from the Chicago post-rock underground.
With approachable alt-county lyricism recalling Fred Neil, Townes Van Zandt, Jackson C. Frank, and Bill Callahan carried away on meandering ragas, this one feels simultaneously poetic, organic, and mathematical. Moon Bros. (aka Matt Schneider) is joined by Dan Bitney (of Tortoise), Matt Lux (Iron & Wine), and Sam Wagster (Cairo Gang). Producer and engineer Brian Sulpizio (Health & Beauty) records and mixes.
PLAID BRIXX NEW VIDEO

DAN LIPTON “DARK WATER”
Last week DC-based singer-songwriter Dan Lipton offered an exclusive download of his single “Dark Water” via Sunset in the Rearview who noted “The hallowed vocal breaks he employs help create the heart wrenching feeling of emptiness which purveys the song but unlike the tragic work of Jeff Buckley, whom Lipton has drawn several comparisons to, “Dark Water” is intoned with an uplifting and hopeful quality which balances its tragic vibrations.”

IT’S NOT NIGHT: IT’S SPACE NEW SINGLE
“The track was born, like most of our songs, out of jam but this one was particularly potent,” the band elaborates of “Starry Wisdom.” “During the auspicious dog days of July 2013, we had one particular session that delivered to us a lot of the material that wound up on the record. We would jam for twenty-minutes, take a break, jam again, etc. One of those blocks delivered this song petty much in its entirety. We trimmed the fat and rearranged maybe one or two riffs in the middle, but this song basically arrived as is, start to finish, in a way that is different from how we normally work. The title is a nod to Lovecraft as Starry Wisdom is the name of a cult that exists in his mythos.”
CINDY ALEXANDER NEW ALBUM
Award-winning, singer-songwriter CINDY ALEXANDER, announces the release of her 8th studio album, Deep Waters, on July 15th via Blue Élan Records. Deep Waters explores love in all of its forms— the passionate, sexual, the sacred and the maternal, even love that’s remorseful and misguided. All of it, CINDY exposes with an unrelenting truthfulness through both her music and vocal delivery; she demands the listener take it all in and surrender to her fearless take on life.
The title track, about abandoning oneself completely to another, was the first song she wrote with acclaimed artist, writer and producer Colin Devlin, best known for his solo work and as half of leading Irish duo, The Devlins. “That’s the beautiful thing about art,” CINDY says. “You can dive in and go to places that may be too scary to go to in real life.” Blue Élan producers immediately recognized the duo’s creative chemistry and asked for a full album. CINDY ultimately wrote or co-wrote eight of the album’s 10 tracks (Deep Waters’ lone cover is a remake of Jann Arden’s “Good Mother”).

INTER ARMA NEW SINGLE & Q&A
Inter Arma just shared “Primordial Wound”, a sprawling 10-minute psychedelic doom epic from their forthcoming album Paradise Gallows (out 7/8 on Relapse) that lends credence to my argument that the album is set to be one of the most ambitious and interesting heavy releases of the year.

Haley Bonar is set to release her upcoming full length album Impossible Dream on August 5th via GNDwire (US) / Spit Comet (CA) / Memphis Industries (UK + EU). The album was recorded on analog tape in at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN and was mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TVOTR) & Robbie Lackritz (Feist) at Haut Bruun. NPR’s First Watch has premiered the official video for “Kismet Kill” from Impossible Dream. The video was directed by Nicole Brending and produced by Tanya K Silver. NPR’s Stephen Thompson on the video, “The video for ‘Kismet Kill,’ in which a party-loving prom queen stares down a life that can never compare to the glories of high school, captures many of Bonar’s considerable gifts: Like her music, it pairs shimmery beauty and indelible imagery with an undercurrent of bleakness that can be almost suffocating. As always, “Kismet Kill” finds Bonar packing a cocktail of mixed emotions into bold, economical phrasing — “I was impossible when I was beautiful,” she sings in the chorus — while never letting self-laceration stand in the way of a good earworm.”

Drawing off psych rock influences with nods to the likes of Deerhunter and Thee Oh Sees, the one-part post-punk, two parts fuzz Yorkshire outfit have been hard at work in the studio on their debut release since forming earlier in 2016 with Birthday Blues the enticing product of these sessions.
