Celebrated UK composer and electronic artist Anna Meredith is excited to share the new music video for “Something Helpful,” taken off her debut album Varmints, named “Best New Music” by Pitchfork and released this past March via Moshi Moshi Records. Directed by Jonny Sanders, who was also behind the lens for Meredith’s “R Type” video, the video is a whimsical three minutes featuring colorful animation set to Meredith’s infectious melodies and beats. “The initial concept,” Sanders shares, “was to animate some characters from the ‘Netherlandish Proverbs’ and ‘children’s games’ paintings by a Dutch painter called Bruegel. I adapted the idea by adding some of my own scenarios and turning the whole video into a loose narrative with a dog chasing a balloon and a poor character being bullied. Animated loops and rhythms were based directly on the instrumentation in Anna’s track.” Stay tuned for further announcements.
