MORKOBOT NEW ALBUM
For twelve years now, the three messengers of MoRkObOt have been elaborating on their discography with a series of increasingly perplexing and infectious records. GoRgO is the brand new album of low-end noise rock origami from Lin (bass), Lan (bass) and Lon (drums), to be released on Supernatural Cat this September.
MoRkObOt’s dual-bass methodology creates a debauched entanglement of corkscrew rhythms that shake off the notion of sterile technicality, rather, theirs is a fleshed out monster that stomps to a different octave. Honing in on the minutiae of their interlocking slides, slams and slippery beats, MoRkObOt creates a unique and lively psychedelia akin to being in an accelerating whirlpool of their malicious creation. Heaviness is achieved in the most refracted of manners, letting both bass pincers extend in melodic directions around the relentless, booming drumming, then snapping shut with mechanized indifference, hitting hard and fast over and over. The gurgling fountains of noise Lin and Lan conjure over the duration of GoRgo place them in the highest echelons of noise rock innovation, while Lon’s percussion is both the unstoppable force and the unmovable object.
MEGACIPH “ALL DREAMS ANYWAY”
A devoted peace activist, he has partnered with Veterans For Peace to donate 100% of the album sales from CIVILiAM to VFP’s anti-war mission. In 2014 he was invited to the VFP annual convention in North Carolina as a performer. In April 2015 Megaciph performed at the Peace and Planet Nuclear non-proliferation convention in NYC. “‘All Dreams Anyway’ comes from the reality that far too many young men of color are faced with, and me having lived that reality,” Megaciph says. “I was a knucklehead doing knucklehead things for too many years of my life. A lot of it was anger left over from the Marine Corps, and from the pain and daily struggle of being Black in this racist society. The American dream is broken and we celebrate it everyday, so this is a cynical portrayal of that celebration with the internal struggle made visual for the audience.”

“Black Honey was built from one of the first ideas we started jamming on when we got back together to write this record,” Dustin tells NPR. “Lyrically the song spawned from an image that popped into my head; someone continually swatting at a swarm of bees to get their honey, but somehow not understanding why they would sting back in return. It seemed a fitting metaphor for much of U.S. foreign policy.” Listen here:

From the cacophonous crashing album opener “Talk To Me,” to the rolling “Where Everybody Knows Your Name,” to the Byrds-meets-Zeppelin twelve-string finale, “That’s The Way,” Menzie tackles unabashedly large questions about life and love on this, his sophomore record.
