YEARS & YEARS RELEASE NEW SINGLE

“Desire” first appeared on Years & Years’ critically acclaimed debut album Communion, which was released in July to rave reviews. Rolling Stone called it “dance-pop perfection…with an indie pop edge,” while Pitchfork noted that it “marries thematic precision with the broad kinetics of great pop songwriting, mingling self-loathing and doubt with a redemptive, near-bloody-minded push to prettiness and uplift.” Years & Years’ previous single “King” not only hit No. 1 on the U.K. Singles chart, it also entered the Top 40 chart in the U.S. The song’s accompanying video has racked up over 130 million views on Vevo.

BONES GARAGE NEW SINGLE

The track is an ideal introduction to the band marrying post-punk with surf rock aesthetics to create a luscious melodic sound that occasionally threatens to spin out of control:

THE MIZZERABLES SOPHOMORE FULL LENGTH

Joe Mizzi says of the album: “Its pretty clear when you listen to the album, that some things happened in my life over the last few years since the band started. After losing my job in 2014, going through a breakup, having to move around a few times, I was a bit of a mess. This album runs the gamut of observations and emotions I had at the time. In the end, things worked out, and this album is a reflection of how that happened.”

The album was engineered by Jeff Dean (All Eyes West, Noise by Numbers, The Bomb), produced by Jeff Dean and Joe Mizzi, recorded at Million Yen Studios in Chicago, and mastered by Jon Drew. Plans for a release party in April are pending.

BLACK SPACE RIDERS NEW EP

Nine months after the release of Refugeeum, the internationally acclaimed fourth album by BLACK SPACE RIDERS, comes a reprise: the Beyond Refugeeum EP! The EP will be released May 13 via BSR/Cargo.

Vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist JE discussed the idea behind the EP: “We had deliberately kept back four songs, all original recordings, from the Refugeeum sessions in order to release them separately from the album because – as the cover artwork already may suggest – the material is different to the songs on Refugeeum. It’s unlike what you might expect from this band. But you can still tell that it comes logically and quite unmistakably from the BLACK SPACE RIDERS. The songs are exalted, sometimes overwrought, vivid, and yet accessible. Much has happened in Europe and in the world since these songs were written at the end of 2014 and recorded in early 2015, but they seem to be even more contemporary and necessary than ever.”

“MISSING YOU” VIDEO

Montreal-bred songwriter JF Robitaille is no stranger to lofty expectations. Yes, he’s long been celebrated as one of the most engaging songwriters North of the 49 and with 2013’s Rival Hearts, the world began to take notice. After the album charted in Germany, he found himself playing at Hamburg’s fabled Reeperbahn Festival along with several other gigs throughout that country. Robitaille’s international rep began to resemble his accolades in Canada. Here, a troubadour cut from the same cloth as Leonard Cohen. Or Nick Drake. Or Bob Dylan.

Now Robitaille brings to us “Palace Blues” the most ambitious album he has ever written. Recorded in familiar environs—it was captured at Preston, Ontario’s House of Miracles with longtime friend and bassist-guitarist Tavo Diez de Bonilla (Jenn Grant), drummer Marshall Bureau, keyboardist J.J. Ipsen (Hayden, Jim Guthrie), and horn player-guitarist, studio owner Andy Magoffin who also engineered the sessions. The result is his boldest, brassiest, and most accomplished work yet. No small feat.

THOUGHTS “TUCK”

PASTE PREMIERES “HOW BRUCE LEE DIED” BY JOE GORGEOUS

Paste has premiered the debut single “How Bruce Lee Died” from glam garage rocker Joe Gorgeous.

According to Gorgeous, “This song is an attempt at remaining undefeated…for whatever it’s worth. It’s the most honest I’ve been with my songwriting career thus far, but it also works as a wonderful opening chapter to the ‘Joe Gorgeous’ narrative. Working on the sound and vibe fit for this song was quite a spiritual experience. Bringing together so many minds for what seemed to be a ‘solo’ project really revamped my faith in songwriting. As for what it’s actually ‘about’ … that’s for all the other minds to figure out.”

BOSTON BALLET PRESENTS ‘KALEIDOSCOPE’

Boston Ballet’s 52nd season continues with Kaleidoscope, a vibrant fusion of works by the most influential choreographic voices of the 20th century. The first of four works presented in this dynamic program is George Balanchine’s Kammermusik No. 2, a “fascinating” and “unremitting” ballet, followed by the dazzling and technically demanding The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude by William Forsythe that returns to Boston Ballet after a critically acclaimed Company premiere last season (Brian Seibert, The New York Times). Adding to the evening’s exceptional program is the graceful Pas de Quatre by unsung choreographer Leonid Yakobson, a classically romantic work noted for its “distinctive movement sensibility” (Roslyn Sulcas, The New York Times). Concluding the program is Léonide Massine’s colorful Gaîté Parisienne, an effervescent ballet that evokes Moulin Rouge and Paris in the early 1900s, and ends with an unforgettable can-can. Kaleidoscope will run March 17–26, 2016 at the Boston Opera House.

“From the technical precision of Forsythe’s The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude to the comic exuberance of Massine’s Gaîté Parisienne, Kaleidoscope is a remarkably diverse program,” explains Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen. “There is something for everybody in this program and it truly exhibits the range of talent of this Company.”

PWR BTTM “WEST TEXAS” VIDEO

PWR BTTM is sharing their new video for the single “West Texas,” watch it HERE. The duo shot the video with director H.S. Naji at an abandoned waterpark outside of the Mojave Desert in Southern California. “This video is about taking authorship of your life, even if you can’t fully control which characters stick around,” explains Liv Bruce. Says director H.S. Naji, “I planned for the term ‘revisiting desolation’ to be the crux of the video. The location plays as all those broken promises, false hopes, and crushed hearts everyone experiences. We see these two personas walk through that familiar cemetery of attractions — and at least make due with pool paraphernalia and glitter.”

OMOPHAGIA “DOWN WE FALL”

Issues the esteemed blog of the clip: “There’s something perversely satisfying about the surprise of seeing a flesh-eating band dressed to the nines in business attire kicking down the door to a blast furnace of superheated death metal. And then you discover that these dudes are quick-change artists as well as fleet-fingered assassins. And yes, there will be blood before it’s over… Along with the flash and fieriness that comes from all those strings being plucked so hyperactively and those drumheads and cymbals being assaulted so vigorously, the song includes a head-whipping melody that proves to be insidiously infectious, and the band also manage to give you a bludgeoning beating of brutality as well.”
