PAIL BERGMANN NEW VIDEO
Flaunt Magazine has premiered Paul Bergmann’s new video for “Drunk (Alone, And New).” Flaunt says, “[Paul Bergmann] is an earnest man, drunk and alone, dancing in his bedroom. Sportcoat on, and not much else (cotton boxer shorts, perhaps). And while Paul appears, and knows himself, as a man, the choice in creating a solitary space for his latest video (aptly titled “Drunk (Alone & New)”) is curious. But, it’s irrelevant whether the actor Paul Bergmann, who is also the composer Paul Bergmann, and director Paul Bergmann, is, or is not, truly alone. Sometimes we just need to boogey down in our bedrooms, regardless of gender, or identity, isolation, or unity. Sometimes we need to be seen, seeing ourselves in moments of vulnerability.”
ATHENS SINGER/SONGWRITER JACK LOGAN TO RELEASE ‘WHAT IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE?’
Failure Records & Tapes is pleased to announce the release of Is This Some Kind Of Joke? from heralded songwriter Jack Logan and The Roach Brothers on February 5, 2016. The full length LP will be available as a limited pressing of 300 multi-colored vinyl discs and as a digital download via iTunes, Amazon and other fine retailers.
Jack Logan gained national and international recognition in 1994 with the release of Bulk, a 42-song, double-CD released on Medium Cool Records, a label founded by Twin/Tone Records’ founder Peter Jesperson, who’d helped guide the early career of The Replacements and others. Logan and his musical partner Kelly Keneipp were then swimming pool pump mechanics living in relative obscurity although recognized locally in Athens, Georgia, as some of the best songwriters on the scene (early champions include Vic Chesnutt and Peter Buck.) Jesperson culled through the more than 500 songs Logan had documented over 10 years to arrive at the final 42. The album received a staggering amount of media attention including a 4 star review in Rolling Stone Magazine and a performance on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” Since then, Logan has released over two dozen records, including 1999’s Buzz Me In on Capricorn Records and most recently 2013’s Bones In The Desert, a collaboration with the Athens-based luthier and guitarist Scott Baxendale.

THE RAGBIRDS SIGN TO ROCK RIDGE MUSIC
Ann Arbor, MI-based genre-bending band The Ragbirds have signed with Rock Ridge Music and will be releasing their fifth studio album via their new label on March 25, 2016. Written and recorded in the wake of the birth of co-founders Erin Zindle and Randall Moore’s first child, The Threshold & The Hearth adds another dimension to the band’s catalog. It’s an album that explores the ways in which love and family relationships can weather the storms of life, year after year.
“I’ve been traveling with bands since I was a teenager,” says Zindle, a multi-instrumentalist who doubles as the band’s chief songwriter and frontwoman. “I’ve written a lot of songs about my experiences on the road. For a while, The Ragbirds played a lot of different styles of world music: Celtic, tango, African numbers, gypsy-sounding pieces… You could pinpoint those songs to a specific region, so the music itself felt like a tour around the world. But we’re coming home with this album. There’s still a worldly feel, but there’s also the sense that The Threshold & The Hearth is the sound we’ve been searching for. I feel like we’re the alchemist who traveled so far, only to discover that what he was seeking was always at home.”

Buddy & Constantine] tempers a strut through the hood with organ swells and a haunting chant.
