With his previous video, “For This,” Ryan Brahms proved beyond a shadow a of a doubt that he could easily conquer the dance-pop songwriting mountain with ease. The song was a real banger, and the accompanying video was a ridge along through the streets and hot spots of New York City. Perhaps it’s only natural for his next offering he totally switches gears for a resounding cover of the Billy Joel classic “New York State Of Mind.” In the stripped down take, Ryan covers all of the instrumentation on the track which consists of not only vocals and piano, but even a gorgeous clarinet solo. For the accompanying video he takes the same visual approach as he does with the audio: less is more. A dark room is the setting and only a enough light is present to illuminate Ryan as he effortlessly performs the song with an ease, conviction, and passion that only a truly gifted New Yorker could make happen.
