SKOPE NEWS FOR JANUARY 13, 2016

EMMY THE GREAT “ALGORITHM”

Preceding the release of her highly anticipated third album Second Love, out March 11th via Bella Union, Emmy The Great has unveiled new track ‘Algorithm.’ Its a love-struck bio-mechanic ballad that ebbs and flows with both the sweet purity of Emma-Lee Moss’ vocals and the intriguing resonance of the metaphor she develops within her own lyrics. Acoustic guitars step into harmonies like dappled sunlight, distant sirens flicker and synthesisers echo. “It’s about searching for meaning in the noise, Emma-Lee Moss says of ‘Algorithm’. “It encapsulates the feeling behind the whole album.”

There is a distinct nod to her debut First Love, in terms of the storytelling that first impressed her lyrical and emotional dexterity upon so many. But on Second Love, Emma-Lee Moss delves into the chambers of a human heart ever-connected to the glare of a nearby screen.

SHANNON HAYDEN SHARES SENSORY-DRIVEN “VANISHED”

Chicago-based cellist Shannon Hayden’s upcoming album sees her fully embracing the textures and thick soundscapes of the ambient world that she has been drifting toward as she continues to discover her musical voice. While performing and touring with Lily and Madeleine (Asthmatic Kitty), Hayden has continued to shape her own compositions that are very much a different beast — they are emotionally charged journeys through surreal, sonic landscapes. Her upcoming album You See the World has been announced for a February 19th 2016 release, and today The Fader premiered the album opener “Vanished” — a brooding yet sensory driven track that sees Shannon’s cello playing slide along the icy surface electronics.

“KING OF SLAVES” VIDEO

THE KENNEDY VEIL drummer, Gabe Seeber, had the following to say about the video: “We spoke with the guy who just launched Candy Grenade (video production), and he mentioned he was looking to shoot his first music video. We were definitely keen on the idea and decided to work with him to shoot a video for the song ‘King of Slaves,’ which is the 5th track on our Unique Leader debut album, ‘Trinity of Falsehood.’

“We chose this song because it wasn’t previously released as a single, and also because it’s one of the heavier, more groove-oriented songs and we wanted to try and showcase the slightly sludgier side of TKV.

“You can expect to hear more songs focused on structure and groove like this one on the next record. We are very happy with how the clip came out and are excited to release our first official music video in collaboration with Candy Grenade via Metal Underground. Thank you guys for always supporting us, and expect new material later this year!”

WE/OR/ME “DREAMING HEART” VIDEO

We/Or/Me premiers video for “Dreaming Heart” from upcoming album, Everything Behind Us is a Dream, due out January 29th. Shot in Rogers Park where singer Bahhaj Taherzadeh resides, the video takes viewers to a grey evening on the Lake Michigan shore, conjuring images of friends and loved ones who have passed away or moved on.

“Dreaming Heart” is a slow dance to absent images, sombre and hushed. But what keeps it from falling into despondency is its overt optimism, conveyed through beautiful female harmonies, bright piano assertions, and the familiar, steady rhythm of an acoustic guitar. Taherzadeh has lived in Rogers Park for nearly a decade. He says, “The lake has always been a setting for contemplation and reflection.” He is not alone though. The video also stars Taherzadeh’s six-year-old twin daughters and captures the life of their family in the neighborhood. “As is seen in the video, there is always something unusual going on and there is an unusual mix of peaceful stillness and wild activity.”

DEASTHKINGS NEW ALBUM + SINGLE

Los Angeles based experimental/doom/rock group DEATHKINGS will release their second full length album, All That Is Beautiful on March 18. Album track “Sol Invictus” is now streaming at this location.

In the wake of their debut album, Destroyer, as well as the recent vinyl 7″ split with ROZAMOV through Midnite Collective, DEATHKINGS descended upon listeners with their bleak, yet enlightening look at the world around them. This state of unrest was developed and channeled into aural and material form with the help of Derek Donley (Bereft, Gravitron, National Sunday Law, You Big Ox, Pigeonwing, Intronaut) at his Ox Cave Studios in Los Angeles. With Donley at the helm, the band steers the listener through the blending of drowning, desperate rage blended with tranquil undertones.
