SKOPE NEWS FOR JANUARY 6, 2015

NEW SINGLE BY TRUDY

Where are we going babe? A question that sticks like a knife in the gut of all young lovers and passenger side drivers. However while this downbeat groover may consider many of life’s deepest cogitations, it also provides answers to our more personal, innermost questions. What colour is my soul? What is my favourite Eiffel 65 song? Which 00’s boyband am I? The universal answer, is of course: Baby I’m Blue.

Trudy play their first London show on Tuesday the 12th of January at The Old Blue Last as part of DIY Magazine’s Hello 2016 series.

RAMLEH ALBUM STREAM

Legendary British noise rock purveyors, RAMLEH, have announced their upcoming US West Coast tour dates for later this month, as the band makes a rare trip to the country in support of their latest double-disc album, Circular Time.

Released in December via Crucial Blast, Circular Time sees RAMLEH closing a nearly twenty-year gap since the outfit’s last “rock-oriented” album, and delivering their most intense work since re-emerging in recent years. Now comprised of founding member Gary Mundy, longtime member Anthony Di Franco, and new drummer Martyn Watts, the album sees the band returning with nearly two hours of speaker-shredding, void-gazing psychedelia, pushing the pummeling, Hawkwindian meltdowns heard on classic ’90s-era albums.

KYLE DION NEW SINGLE

While being featured on a new release from Austin Mahone and having joined Kehlani on Cloud 19 deep cut “How We Do Us” has landed Kyle Dion on the radar of the masses, the 21-year-old’s own music is what’s turning curious listeners into fans. “Kyle Dion takes the wheel in the Alternative R&B lane,” states NYLON in their premiere of the L.A. via Florida singer/songwriter’s new single, “Timed Out.” The song, which Kyle Dion says “should make you feel happy,” carries a light and sweet vibe. “I talk on the theory of relativity,” Kyle Dion tells NYLON, “how time is relative and from that perspective how funny it is that everyone is scared of running out of it.” Produced by French producer Oris Beats, Kyle Dion explains the making of the track: “When I heard it I was in my room and immediately started writing what became ‘Timed Out.’ The inspiration came from me trying to create and get content out there for my fans, fast. I wanted to give them this project ASAP and with that felt a little pressured of time, and then I realized… What is time really?”

TRANSGENDER MUSICIAN CAIT BRENNAN TO RELEASE NEW CD

To say Cait Brennan has lived many lives is truly an understatement. She’s been a schoolteacher, a working screenwriter, a dyed-in-the-wool indie record store clerk, a newspaper reporter, a printing plant grunt. She’s changed her name more times than she remembers and has occupied more genders than there are on the map. But one thing, above all, has burned bright at the center of everything: her music.

Cait has never been your basic folkie singer-songwriter; she’s always been more Bowie or St Vincent than Bon Iver. A singer with a powerful, singular five-octave rock voice, a prolific songwriter, and a multi-instrumentalist who plays every note on her own home recordings, Brennan worked for years in secret, creating gorgeous, otherworldly rock sounds that have never seen the light of day—until now. Discovered and championed by musician and production wunderkind Fernando Perdomo (who’s worked with Linda Perhacs, Emitt Rhodes, Beck, Fiona Apple and Jakob Dylan among many others), Cait Brennan’s debut album is here at last.

LACEY STURM RELEASES LIFE SCREAMS FEB. 12

Four years following her departure from Flyleaf, the vocalist and songwriter who delivered rock anthems like “Again,” All Around Me,” “I’m So Sick” and “Fully Alive” to the top of the retail and radio charts, Lacey Sturm, announces that her debut solo album, Life Screams, will independently release Feb. 12 on FOLLOWSPOT Records with The Fuel Music distribution.

Writing alone, as well as with husband/guitarist Josh Sturm, Skillet’s Korey Cooper and Grammy Award winning writer and producer David Hodges, Lacey created a record that is the sonic successor to Flyleaf’s celebrated self-titled debut (which spent a staggering 133 weeks on Billboard’s Top 200).

“In the beginning, Flyleaf really centered around my story and vision,” says the Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated frontwoman of Flyleaf (through 2012). “This new project continues that narrative in a cohesive way.”

ALEX DEZEN GOES SOLO

On February 12, 2016, Alex Dezen (founder, frontman and main songwriter for the Brooklyn-bred four-piece The Damnwells) will embark on his next musical phase by issuing his first full-length solo set, an appropriately eponymous, deeply personal, 10-track self-portrait of a man now ready to lay the foundation for his own identity as a solo artist.

“When words alone are not enough, you need to say it in a song,” says Dezen, when asked why he felt now was the right time to write and record his inaugural full-fledged solo album. As Dezen describes, a creative burst during a stint in Ohio over New Year’s 2015 sowed the seeds for tracks that would be recorded in Los Angeles during January and February. “I didn’t write like 30 songs and just kind of pick the 10 best. These are 10 songs that I had to write.” The bulk of the sonic slices on the album are served up straight from past personal, and often painful, experiences. “The good thing about writing these songs is that when I have to talk about them I can just say, literally, all you have to do is read the lyrics. Because it’s not like its coached in some kind of flowery metaphor.”
