GAYTHEIST X JOSH HUGHES “RABBITS”

GAY*BITS is a split LP from two of Portland’s most exciting underground rock ‘n’ roll bands: GAYTHEIST and RABBITS. Like two sides of the same strange coin, GAY*BITS showcases the wherewithal the two power trios summon to run in different directions with the same basic tools and material. Attacking the split LP format as a collaborative challenge rather than simply a vehicle for two distinct EPs, GAY*BITS funnels, fuses, and distills the best of both their wacked-out worlds into twelve nuggets of hook-laden noise rock. Sharing songs, singers, and so-called humor, GAYTHEIST and RABBITS get up inside each others’ warped heads and in each others’ faces like never before, bringing out the best of both for a rollicking ridealong through a razorbladed candyland of catchy riffs, bruising beats, and surprises galore. GAY*BITS is to be released on August 21st, 2015 via GOOD TO DIE RECORDS.

ZAC NELSON SHARES FULL STREAM OF “FANTASTIC, ENTRANCING”

Zac Nelson conjures a freak matrimony of chaos and beauty for New Once, his first album released via Brooklyn’s Styles Upon Styles (Archie Pelago, Gut Nose, Gabriel Garzon Montano). Born in Illinois and based in Sacramento, Nelson cultivates a daunting discography of pop experiments across a myriad of personas, collaborations and solo affairs. A feral drummer, versatile vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, he performs with ALAK and Biosexual, recorded as CHLL PLL w/ Zach Hill of Death Grips and maintains a steady output of solo material. His past excursions in leftfield rock (Charbroile [Debacle, 2012]) and blasted sound design (Exis [Further, 2013]), meld into one beautiful orgy of sound in his most idiosyncratic album to date.

E REIGN NEW VIDEO

Prepping his debut on the hip-hop scene, rapper E-Reign has released his newest single “Need More” to introduce his brand to a wider audience, touch the soul and promote the realness. “Need More” is a flurry of hi-hats and snares, a soulful sample chorus, and wavy synths that create a New York vibe (something the rapper feels many artists from his city are afraid to stand behind) and a go-and-get-it attitude to match, brought on by E-Reign’s desire to further his craft and build his empire. In addition, the single serves to uplift the members of the community and encourage them to constantly strive for more, no matter how much they have already accomplished.

OLD MAN LUEDECKE “EARLY DAYS” VIDEO

Canada’s favorite banjo savant Old Man Luedecke announced last week that he’ll release his sixth studio album Domestic Eccentric next month on July 24th via True North Records. His latest video for “Early Days,” which premiered today on The Bluegrass Situation, was filmed during a recording session for the new album. “It was shot in the cabin I built in the woods behind my house where we made the record,” says Luedecke. “It starts with footage from inside the backhoe we had to hire to plow a road through the three and a half feet of snow to the cabin to get the gear in. You can hear Tim O’Brien and I discussing playing the individual strings of a chord to kick off the song just like the songs on Ralph Stanley’s Clinch Mountain Gospel album. It looks like we’re having fun making the record, I think. The end shots are from my 39th birthday party that same night.”

“PETRICHRIST” NEW SINGLE BY ELYSIA

This is Elysia’s first official full-length album, existing as part of her Shenandoah Series but now released by FaltyDL’s Blueberry Records. It’s a concept study that follows Virginian American history, exploring brownness as more than culture or othering, as geology. As mud, dirt and mineral, enmeshed in lithic, vast time scales.

American narratives are re-examined on this level: narratives of colonized and colonizer, slave histories, impact events and fern spikes, two-spirit and queer indigenous histories. Trans-ontologies are given voice and resonance.

RUNAWAY SAINTS RELEASE FIRST SINGLE “BROOKYLN NIGHTS”

Runaway Saints are the new guys in town, but the road here was long and winding. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island the band (Johnny Gates, Jamie Jarbeau, and Matt Scanlon), traded in the traditional next step of college, for a van and trailer and hit the road, writing, recording and beginning to build a touring base for themselves.

Knowing they were serious about this dream, the guys started eyeing Nashville and sent a random email to producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift). By the time Nathan wrote back, the guys were making the 18-hour drive to his house to play a set for him in his living room. Shortly after that trip, they were making another one back to Nashville, but this time there was a moving truck involved.\
