“CLOUD RIDER” REMIX
It’s always a rare treat when one superstar artist remixes another star’s original work -it offers a fascinating glimpse into the diverging avenues of artistic expression and taste. Indeed, Solomun’s remix of Paul Kalkbrenner’s single Cloud Rider does just that.
The original ‘Cloud Rider’ – the first single off of Kalkbrenner’s forthcoming seventh studio album 7- is an upbeat, soulful affair that brilliantly incorporates D-Train’s soulful vocal sample into a melodic bit of techno. Solomun’s interpretation does nothing of the sort – instead opting to shroud the famous sample in an ethereal and brooding concoction of tech house mastery.

Who cares who wrote and performed on it or what label it’s on? If it connects with the listener, then the job is done. There should be no other filters preventing that from happening.”

INSTITUTE STREAMS CATHARSIS LP IN FULL
Austin punks Institute are streaming their forthcoming Catharsis LP in its entirety right now. You can listen to the album here.
Politically speaking, not much has changed about the way Institute exists as a band since signing to Sacred Bones. Having members in Glue, Wiccans, and Back to Back, all fellow stalwarts of the Texas punk scene, helps streamline the approach for them, as all of their bands operate from the same basic ethos. In fact, singer Moses Brown has said they’re only comfortable being on Sacred Bones because he considers the label “a punk label on steroids.” (A note from the label—“Drugs, yes. Steroids, usually no.”)
MKTO UNVEIL SIZZLING VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “BAD GIRLS”
The new video for “Bad Girls” was driven by acclaimed director Hannah Lux Davis, who has guided videos for Arianna Grande, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and others. Speaking on the song, MKTO told Billboard: “We’re pumped up about it. We had a lot of fun with this song, but we’ve also grown a lot this past couple of years and have a lot more to talk about in our music. There is some great instrumentation behind us on this new one that we think fans will also be excited about.” MKTO also performed the hot new track on the 2015 Billboard Awards Red Carpet Pre-show last month. The song is the opening salvo from their forthcoming sophomore album due out on Columbia Records and scheduled to be released later this year.
Their colorfully passionate music tugged at heartstrings and had tastemakers dancing around the room all in one fell swoop, with praise pouring in from the likes of Billboard, Spin, Alternative Press, Vice NOISEY, Guitar World, & major buzz from the blogosphere and HypeM heavy hitters like The Wild Honey Pie, Earmilk and Baeble. Their lead single “Wolves” has been in full rotation on SiriusXM’s AltNation for over 10 weeks and has climbed the Alt18Countdown (based on fan votes) – where it has remained for 8 weeks, peaking at #7. It has also received spins on KROQ and reached #2 on alternative specialty radio’s FMQB & KKBB charts.
