HEATHERS SINGLE “TANKER”
The song is about how obsession with a person, an object, or a concept can completely warp your outlook on the world and your place in it. “When I wrote the song I was trying to write something sort of 60s pop psychedelic, like something the Byrds or even the Beatles might’ve done,” says Heathers’ singer and songwriter Michael Francis. “I’ve always been fascinated by obsession and the difference between light and darkness and so I really wanted this song to have a bright, melodic, almost happy melody coupled with really dark lyrics about someone’s decaying mind. I wrote the lyrics in the first person because I think that’s the most interesting way you can outline obsession. What is obsession anyway but the attempt to fill some kind of dead and rotting space within? That’s why our anti-hero sings, ‘Don’t look, ’cause you won’t like what you might see.’ He could be denying his victim the ability to participate in reality, or he could be looking in the mirror.”
CHOOSE WHO TO OPEN THE TAOS SOLAR MUSIC FESTIVAL
Now in its 15th year of bringing the hottest bands to Taos, the Taos Solar Music Festival is asking music lovers to choose which New Mexico band they would like to see perform at the festival, held on June 27 and 28. Voting will be available via Facebook today, June 6, until 5 p.m. on June 18.
“The Fans get to choose who they want to see get the spot on the Taos Solar Festival Stage – the winning band will have to be ready to show their fans how to vote and win new fans with their efforts on Facebook to drive people to vote,” said Taos Solar Music festival organizer Dawn Richardson.

When Dutch duo Chocolate Puma ventured to Junior Sanchez’s New Jersey studio to put the final touches on their collaboration “Lost Your Groove,” they never imagined that one of their biggest musical inspirations Todd Terry would ring the doorbell and offer to jump on the record.

CASEY DRIESSEN HEADS TO BERKLEE IN SPAIN
Berklee College of Music has appointed Casey Driessen as Director of the Contemporary Performance master’s program at its campus in Valencia, Spain. The American born musician, composer, producer, educator, and Berklee alumnus began his new role on June 1 in preparation for the start of the academic year in September of 2015.
