CHERYL “PEPSII” RILEY NEW ALBUM
When Cheryl “Pepsii” Riley sings, every ear in the room listens. She has the kind of sultriness that seeps underneath every nook and cranny in the listener and grips with a firm hold. It’s one of the reasons why famed director Tyler Perry has continued to cast her for over a decade now in his many productions. With her new music project, “Still Believe,” on her independent label, SodaFace Records, Riley has delivered a true showstopper. “Still Believe” is a faith filled, heart drenched conviction of love persevered and Cheryl “Pepsii” Riley delivers sweet dominion with each pumping note.
Passion packed with 12 tracks, penned by Riley and her writing partner, Luke Austin, “Still Believe,” reverberates with silky soul, rhythmic R&B, dreamy jazzy undertones and bluesy thunder. “Still Believe in Love,” the single release, is a powerhouse declaration of defiance in the face of love gone wrong. THE LEGAL IMMIGRANTS “FORK IN THE ROAD”
One of the first things that come to mind when you listen to music is its inherent permanence. Genres change and adapt, and bands rise and quietly disappear–but the music stays and allows us to relive any number of particular memories like they just happened. And for Grand Rapids, Michigan-based rock group, The Legal Immigrants, this idea of music as constant moving force is what drives and inspires their own densely packed analog rock aesthetic and its subsequent twisting rhythmic branches. And although based in Western Michigan, their music and philosophy centers around a central Detroit ethos: raw, gritty and honest.

ATHENS BASED COLLECTIVE FAMILY & FRIENDS TO RELEASE NEW EP XOXO
Eclectic indie folk-rock septet Family & Friends will be independently releasing their second EP, XOXO on July 17th. Rooted in the vibrant Athens, GA music scene, the group joined together under the mantra of “good music, good people” and has been steadily gaining a loyal following throughout the southeast. Fusing tribal rhythms, featuring two drummers, with infectious, anthemic choruses and dynamic arrangements, a Family & Friends live show feels more like a communal revival with your best friends than a concert.
A consistent theme running through the band’s music and live show, is their focus on being a “collective”. The ideology that the sum is greater than all of the individual parts is the foundation of this young ensemble. Family and Friends (Mike MacDonald, Casey Harper, Jamie Rios, Ryan Houchens, JP McKenzie, Tuna Fortuna, and Maria Kindt) met and formed at University of Georgia, and through the Athens music scene. Adding to the band’s unique vibe is the fact that their two drummers face each other, allowing them to feed off each others intensity, a vision that the band had from their inception.
THE RECEIVER & NPR MUSIC LAUNCH NEW TRACK “TRANSIT”
“‘Transit’ sets the tone for the album with a more rhythmic aesthetic than our previous work,” the band commented. “Pulsing, repetitive synths outline the chord progression and are always in motion. And the sparse, brighter synths and vocal melody are there to add loftiness and color. The song is about commitment to another person despite change and loss, and we wanted the music to reflect that.”
