NEW EP BY THAD KOPEC COMING

Thad Kopec announces the release of his new cinematic indie folk EP, The Ridge, due out May 19. Melody and lyrics paint pastoral imagery with the songs unfolding like a storybook, inviting the listener into Kopec’s imagination while engaging with their own.

Through a six track journey, The Ridge chronicles a father and son relationship told from the perspective of the boy as the joy of childhood gives way to the melancholy of adulthood. A representation of his own maturation musically, Kopec’s The Ridge remains lyrically consistent while drawing on themes of displacement, scarcity, and family in each track. It poses the question “What is on the other side of the ridge?” Big cinematic moments color the narrative and encourage the listener to generate mental landscapes that bring the characters to life. In songs like “Guardian” and “Owl Wakes Up” the lyrics flow together with wit and ease while maintaining some measure of ambiguity and subtlety. Singer Molly Parden contributes her rustic vocals to the EP creating an alluring harmony with Kopec.

Of the video, Steve Hackett commented, “The ‘Love Song to a Vampire’ video was directed by Paul Gosling whose filming I was impressed by. Most of the film was shot in the historic and atmospheric city of Leicester. Paul was keen to highlight the combination of Gothic imagery with the portrayal of an abusive relationship implicit in the song. We discussed the ideas together…The transformation from the glamour that lures the victim to the final destructive hold.”

MYAMI and electronic producer Wayfarer// have teamed up to create her debut single, Soldier. Wayfarer//, who has enjoyed a fair bit of Triple J airplay for his original tracks, helped realise MYAMI’s vision for her debut single.

In 2009, he received the public endorsement of Eminem, scored a major label deal, appeared on the cover of XXL’s prestigious annual Freshmen issue, and had released a string of universally adored mixtapes and EPs. Behind the scenes, he faced the horrors of bipolar disorder and addiction, bravely going through treatment alone. Emerging with his condition under control, HAMILTON stands poised to finally make the impact he was born to make this year.
