MAJOR LAZER X DJ SNAKE “LEAN ON”

In 2009 when Major Lazer first launched, Diplo was known as the globetrotting underground dance music champion and electronic music was relegated to coverage in niche media outlets. Six years later, Diplo is now one of the most in-demand producers for the biggest artists in the world and dance music is arguably the most popular it’s ever been. Diplo has alluded to the fact that 2015 will see numerous album releases from Major Lazer (his dancehall project with co-producers Walshy Fire and Jillionare) and today marks the beginning of that journey with the release of the Major Lazer & DJ Snake track “Lean On” featuring MØ.

WILL BUTLER STREAMS NEW ALBUM

Arcade Fire’s Will Butler will release his debut solo album Policy on CD, LP, and digital on March 10 in the US and March 16 in the rest of the world. Pitchfork reported the news and shared the exclusive Spotify pre-album stream.

Will’s lyrics present a sideways vision of America that’s beautiful and horrible at the same time. There’s violence in the greed and selfishness of these characters, but more than a little humor in them trying to get what they want in three to five business days or cooking pony macaroni for dinner. When he implores “sing to me” at the end, it’s the start of a conversation—one that’ll keep running long after the thirty minutes of Policy are through.

PETE RG PREMIERES “”STILL HERE”” ACOUSTIC VIDEO

“‘Still Here’ was written on acoustic guitar,” RG explains about the song, lyrically inspired by his personal bond with multi-instrumentalist /co-producer Brina Kabler. “I was messing around one evening while Brina was cooking us dinner and stumbled across the chorus, lyrics and melody. Brina chimed in with her background vocal right away. We looked at each other and knew we had something special. Brina and I originally intended for there to only be an acoustic version of the song. No band, but as we were recording the acoustic guitars, we created a loop for me to play to. The loop inspired some additional guitar ideas, and with that, we were off and running with the band version.”

SISTER SIN “DESERT QUEEN” VIDEO

“We took a bit of inspiration from ancient times and aimed for a darker feeling in this video”, explains guitarist Jimmy Hiltula. “Since the song has a dark feel to it, yet is very melodic, we wanted to capture that along with having the Desert Queen character in it. Also, we wanted to take some focus off the band and give more room for Liv portraying this gypsy kind of woman, reading cards and being enigmatic”. Hiltula continues on the filming, “The desert shots were absolutely crucial for the whole video and 11 Frames (producer) did an awesome job with these beautiful pictures. We couldn’t be more excited about this video! We have all met the Desert Queen in our lives (or eventually will), the mystery lies beyond.”

RORSCHACK + TONE-z RELEASE BAR TAB VIDEO

Bay Area’s EDM label, MalLabel is excited to announce their latest hip-hop-electronic joint, Handcuffs. A project with LA based producer Rorschack, and Emmy nominated emcee T.O.N.E.-z, Handcuffs is a jazzy glitch-hop, downtempo inspired album that shows what’s possible when lines are blurred in music today.

The track ‘Bartab’ tackles the subject of meeting that someone special, followed by ‘Handcuffs’ which portrays the difficulty of even approaching that special girl without getting called on the game you ain’t even tryin’ to play. ‘Computer Luv’ is a chill ride through a tripped out soundscape. ‘Naked She Was’ is a wonderfully introspective treasure of sound to round off this profound collection.

BRONCHO SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR “NC-17”

BRONCHO share a new video for “NC-17” from their relentless sophomore release Just Enough Hip To Be Woman today via NPR. Regarding “NC-17,” director George Salisbury summed up the mystery behind the young man’s storyline, “It’s about the corruption of youth going both ways. Kids run towards it, I know I did, and sometimes they have a few tricks of their own.”

STEFAN PRUETT “CAREFREE”

While Pruett categorizes his music broadly as “dance” and wants it to make bodies move, he hopes that it will touch people in a deeper way. To him, making this album was a way to deal with his personal issues—many of which he had bottled up for years. Not only did the stress of thinking daily about his heart condition weigh on him but also dealing with the death of his older brother several years ago and a subsequent estrangement from his family took a heavy toll.

“I was more likely the one who wasn’t going to make it, not him,” muses Pruett. “I didn’t deal with his death or my family situation very well, and it became a big part of me reinventing myself and making this record.”
