At first glance, the album cover-front and back-along with the inside sleeves portrays a glowing young female. Singer/Songwriter/Pianist, Jana Mashonee, proves that real beauty comes more from inside by way of her singing. Mashonee releases her entire heart and soul into the publics’ ears with New Moon Born. The final result is a 16-Track record that conveys Mashonee’s deepest thoughts and beliefs.
Mashonee is of Native American descent and has represented her culture to the fullest. Jana has won seven NAMMY’S (Native American Music Awards) and she is also a 2007 Grammy Award Nominee. Along with other countless awards, Jana also spends some of her free time educating the youth. She is extremely dedicated to her non-profit organization, the Jana’s Kids Foundation. This cause helps Native American and Aboriginal youth reach for the stars by way of awarding scholarships for artistic, athletic and academic achievement. Jana Mashonee is a true and genuine person that deserves to be applauded and commended for her kind and noble acts.
The album itself is simply amazing with a fresh R&B sound, but with so much vibrant soul coming from the voice of Mashonee. She is literally laying out all of her inner-most emotions on this record. You get such a soulful vibe that is best described as soft in touch, but overly potent in sound. Her singing skills are well-polished with melodies and harmonies more than just in sync. The music and artist is as pure as the water that you would drink. You will drink this album up from beginning to end and not once will you get a dull taste. Jana displays powerful, yet sensual verses by way of her incredible vocal range. From fun and upbeat rhythms to slowed-down and love-like tempos can all be heard on New Moon Born.
This is an album to really take in and listen to fully without any distractions because it is a fine quality recording. And Jana Mashonee is a talented artist who solely wrote this record for two purposes: to make a difference and to release her true self to the listeners. I found out about Jana in 2005 when news from indian country published an article about a new rising star’s debut album “Flash of a Firefly” once I saw her and heard her sing, I was hooked!
I am still hooked after 4 solid albums all excellently done. All I can say is she is like no one I have ever known. Her beauty begins in her heart and flows out through her music, and her character. She does wonderful work inspiring kids to learn. She’s a great role model. I feel very lucky, and blessed to have met her.
Her voice is outstanding, listen to her music, and you will know you have heard someone very special! I expect to see her shine for a long time. I think she has shown herself to be Superstar quality, in her music and her unique personality.

Words can’t adequately describe Jana’s incredible talent! You simply have to listen to this album yourself to understand the true quality and rare beauty of Jana. She shares her emotions, her spirit; her very essence is poured out to the listener fortunate enough to encounter her. Artistic talent and musicians surround us, but Jana has raised her performance to an astounding level that few can equal. As Mr. Rae alludes to, the experience really is like drinking cool water from the purest spring. Her songs tell stories, make statements, raise memories, and entertain. But every one of them refresh and inspire — they literally energize you! New Moon Born does this and more. Once again, Jana has offered us her heart in magnificent and flawless fashion. All we have to do is accept it with gratitude.
I have listened to Jana’s earlier albums which were fantastic. However, this album represents a departure from the Native American music genre. The range and power of her voice combined with a very spiritual and souful singing style make this album truly special.
I didn’t know what to expect when I heard Jana Mashonee was expanding beyond Native American music. I have known her work from when she only had one name and did house music – “More Than Life” is one of the greatest house records of all time and then move forward to her two overwhelmingly emotional and beautiful American Indian Christmas and American Indian Story albums. She was nominated for a Grammy for one of them. Now she has a last name and with it one of the most amazing soul records of recent history. I am a lover and collector of music from female soul classic singers – Aretha, Dionne, Gladys and Whitney to name a few. With this album Ms. Mashonee has joined those ranks. Her vocals, writing and piano playing are in a class all of their own. She will take you on an emotional journey that will capture your spirit and your heart. Kudos and heartfelt thanks to Ms. Mashonee for single handedly lifting music out of a winter of mediocrity. I am a fan forever.
I got Jana Mashonee’s new album this weekend. I have her Christmas CD which I love so I bought this one from Amazon. It took a while to get but it was worth the wait. Without a doubt she is the best new female singer out there. Period!!! Exquisite melodies, deep lyrics, soulful vocals and amazing musicianship. This is a must have album and a must see artist.
I’ve Been following Jana ever since I found her in a Native American calendar. I heard her song Ohh Baby Baby (curb records 1999)and been hook on her very since. I can say since following her from the start Jana just keep amazing me just when you think she’s done it she come out with something new and better. She is a very beautiful and talented woman. Jana will always have me as a fan and I’ll try to see her very time She come around where I’m at. Keep up the good work and i can’t wait to see you again soon I hope.

Jana always delivers soulful performances. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed but I am simply amazed at how incredible her voice is on the new CD. She just keeps topping herself! I want to share the richness of her voice and the joy of her songs with everyone I know. Jana is amazing!
i love jana mashonee i would love it if people every where could hear her.jana is one of my idols. im native american and i relate to her music. i think it would be the absolute tour of the century if jana and the jonas brothers were to tour together. im glad people are starting to find out who jana is. she is an amazing singer songwriter and actress. she deserves to be heard and seen. i love her.
