November 30, 2008 | by Skope Staff

It has made the bedroom and club DJ into a household name.  The Creator’s of this sound come from a place called Chicago, in the state of Illinois, USA.  Although New York and Italian producers have a claim to being a catalyst to this great sound, it was definitely the unique, booty-shakin’, minimal Chicago sound that captured the hearts, ears and souls of dance music enthusiasts world-wide.  The majority of the foundational House classics were released between 1984 and 1990.  We’ve included a few others from the 1990s and 2000s that carried on the tradition…

House Music was born in Chicago, in the month of January, year of 1984 when Jesse Saunders released the world’s 1st House record on his upstart label, Jes Say Records.  That 1st House record was called On & On.  The label went on to release a slew of House classics including Funk U Up (Those Pretty Girls) by Jesse Saunders, Undercover by Dr. Derelict, Real Love by Jesse’s Gang, which was the 1st House record to feature scratching by Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, and It’s OK by The Force.  Eventually Jesse would start a few other classic labels including DanceMania and Trax.
