QUOTED: LUDACRIS AND KANYE GO HEAD TO HEAD
November 28, 2008 | by Skope Staff
Ludacris’ album Theater of the Mind hit stores this past Monday. Yes, Monday. Usually albums hit stores on a Tuesday so Luda explained the reason for the early release.
“Both me and Kanye (West)’s album come out on the same day, we’re both on Def Jam records. They moved it up a day because of course, Thanksgiving is a holiday, and the stores will be closed. So Monday, they moved it up a day, and this is the biggest shopping week of the entire year, so with that being said you’ll have two great albums to go out and get. It’ll be an exciting day for the stores.”
Luda said that he and Kanye weren’t in a battle over sales like West and 50 Cent were last year.
“No we’re not having a war over record sales, like I said, Kanye just came off selling damn near a million on his first week. So with that being said, I’m always trying to be extremely competitive but I think at the end of the day it will be a win-win for both of us because a lot of people will be in the stores. And its hard to compare our albums because he’s definitely going in a different direction, with the songs that I’ve heard. Ya know he’s kinda more doing the singing and auto-tune thing and my album, ya know, I feel is a classic rap-my-heart-out-hot-sixteen album!”
But that doesn’t mean Kanye doesn’t like to lose. In fact one time we spoke with him, he explained how crazy he gets when he wins.
“I like to celebrate. I like to just slam dunk, ya know s*** in peoples face like and then just hang up there on the rim for a while and then run down the court like ‘Yea yea you seen that?! We did that! I told you. I’ll see you at the awards! Yea I told you we run this s***’.”
