QUOTED: IT’S ALL ABOUT SECONDHAND SERENADE’S FANS
November 30, 2008
Because of MySpace, Secondhand Serenade already had a strong fan base prior to making it big with the hit single, “Fall For You.” John Vesely, the man who created the one man band, says it’s always been about the people who enjoy his music.
“I mean, it’s been about the fans the whole time, I mean we haven’t really gotten any favors and you know, I’ve just kind of proven myself and that’s been really, really important to me.”
“Fall For You” can be found on Secondhand Serenade’s CD, A Twist In My Story. In February, a CD/DVD Deluxe Edition of the disc will be released.
JESSE SAUNDERS COMPILATION COMING IN LATE JANUARY 2009
November 30, 2008
It has made the bedroom and club DJ into a household name. The Creator’s of this sound come from a place called Chicago, in the state of Illinois, USA. Although New York and Italian producers have a claim to being a catalyst to this great sound, it was definitely the unique, booty-shakin’, minimal Chicago sound that captured the hearts, ears and souls of dance music enthusiasts world-wide. The majority of the foundational House classics were released between 1984 and 1990. We’ve included a few others from the 1990s and 2000s that carried on the tradition…
House Music was born in Chicago, in the month of January, year of 1984 when Jesse Saunders released the world’s 1st House record on his upstart label, Jes Say Records. That 1st House record was called On & On. The label went on to release a slew of House classics including Funk U Up (Those Pretty Girls) by Jesse Saunders, Undercover by Dr. Derelict, Real Love by Jesse’s Gang, which was the 1st House record to feature scratching by Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, and It’s OK by The Force. Eventually Jesse would start a few other classic labels including DanceMania and Trax.

QUOTED: BUTCH WALKER PUTS TRAGEDY TO GOOD USE
November 28, 2008
Music lovers may know Butch Walker either for his solo work or his credits with artists like P!nk, the All-American Rejects, Avril Lavigne and many others, or both. Either way, the musician has a new album out called Sycamore Meadows. It’s named after the street Butch lived on in Malibu before his house was destroyed in the California wildfires last year. Walker spoke about the tragedy.
“Needless to say that was heartbreaking and we were in New York City when it happened so I came back with two suitcases to my name and that was it and it was just a weird feeling, I mean I’m fine with it now, it was definitely an emotional wreck of my brain to process all that.”
Sycamore Meadows is out now; Butch Walker will play in Hollywood, California on December 4th.
QUOTED: LUDACRIS AND KANYE GO HEAD TO HEAD
November 28, 2008
Ludacris’ album Theater of the Mind hit stores this past Monday. Yes, Monday. Usually albums hit stores on a Tuesday so Luda explained the reason for the early release.
“Both me and Kanye (West)’s album come out on the same day, we’re both on Def Jam records. They moved it up a day because of course, Thanksgiving is a holiday, and the stores will be closed. So Monday, they moved it up a day, and this is the biggest shopping week of the entire year, so with that being said you’ll have two great albums to go out and get. It’ll be an exciting day for the stores.”
Luda said that he and Kanye weren’t in a battle over sales like West and 50 Cent were last year.
“No we’re not having a war over record sales, like I said, Kanye just came off selling damn near a million on his first week. So with that being said, I’m always trying to be extremely competitive but I think at the end of the day it will be a win-win for both of us because a lot of people will be in the stores. And its hard to compare our albums because he’s definitely going in a different direction, with the songs that I’ve heard. Ya know he’s kinda more doing the singing and auto-tune thing and my album, ya know, I feel is a classic rap-my-heart-out-hot-sixteen album!”
But that doesn’t mean Kanye doesn’t like to lose. In fact one time we spoke with him, he explained how crazy he gets when he wins.
“I like to celebrate. I like to just slam dunk, ya know s*** in peoples face like and then just hang up there on the rim for a while and then run down the court like ‘Yea yea you seen that?! We did that! I told you. I’ll see you at the awards! Yea I told you we run this s***’.”
Check out Ludacris’ Theater of the Mind and Kanye West’s 808 & Heartbreak in stores now.

Miclordz & Sauce Funky, Sunset Ammunition
November 28, 2008
Wow!!! Funk—Rock—-Hip-hop= Stellar record with Sunset Ammunition. The album starts off with an intro of fans boasting on Miclordz & Sauce Funky—one hell of preview. The first track, “Start the Show”, brings high energy right from the get go and never lets up. These guys are funkin’ it and rockin’ the joint while also bringing a hip-hop flavor. Get ready to get amped up with Miclordz & Sauce Funky’s Sunset Ammunition.
The band is made up of Dayun Marjanovic aka BOOTS on vocals, Mike O’Phee aka AlerG on vocals, Matthew LaLonde aka MATTE on guitar, John Rodgers aka ROGE on bass and Charles McKittrick aka C MACK on drums. These five members all have one thing in common: they are all from Canada. This five-star Canadian group is taking the music scene by storm in Canada along with many spots in the U.S. Be on the look out because the overall sound and energy on this record is simply electric and you just might get shocked!
I really loved so many of the lines and licks throughout Sunset Ammunition such as: “Funky like James Browns’ dancing shoes” and the crowd-pleasing chant of “Funk you Right on Up!” on “Funk You Up”. The Shaft-like guitar riff to start up the song, “Why You So?” was just simply SWEET and appears one more time in the song. Guess I can say: Miclordz & Sauce Funky are Baaaad Mothers (You say, Shut Your Mouth), but I’m just talkin’ about Miclordz & Sauce Funky. The funkiness is pumpin’, the rock vibe is slammin’ hard and the rap attack is tight. You’re getting all three genres of music all wrapped up into one close-knit, Canadian five-some.
Good words of wisdom and a terrific message is brought to you by one of the band members on “First I’m Gonna…” and that is: “Everything is just so mainstream, people gotta start taking chances again because that’s the only way we’re gonna get out of this rut.” I couldn’t agree more man—good point! Also hear the guys sayin’ on “Roll With Me” that you can find them hangin’ out on “Hip-Hop Avenue and Funk Boulevard”. Makes sense because that sums up the core of their sound, but can’t forget let’s say Rockin’ Road. On the track, “All My People”, you’ll hear a funky, fresh bass line with one hell of a rock groove.
I also was feelin’ “Smooth” because of its silky, smooth-to-the-touch approach and calm, cool and collect feel. The last song on the album, “Sunset Daze”, ends it all nicely with a cool acoustic set to start it all up. Overall, I simply loved this album because of its great sound, which was very refreshing to the ears. Love a little rock, rap and funk, so WHY not put it all together to make up Miclordz & Sauce Funky. And then the ENERGY, it was just nuts—I seriously was jumpin’ up and jammin’ out in my two-bedroom condo. No joke!
Definitely need to hear these funky, fresh rockers from Canada—you will not be disappointed I assure you. For more on the group, SKOPE out www.miclordz.com and www.myspace.com/miclordzmusic. I really loved every song, except one on Sunset Ammunition, so overall a terrific album. Job well done Miclordz & Sauce Funky—can’t wait to hear more!!
