EMINEM CROWNED “BEST RAPPER ALIVE”

October 8, 2008

According to a Vibe magazine readers’ poll, Eminem is the “Best Rapper Alive” — beating out Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Game, Rick Ross and some 60 other MCs.  About 920-thousand votes were tallied.  According to MTV News, Eminem is “honored,” but released a statement saying, “I don’t think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best, though.  Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe’s offering the distinction, hell yeah, I’ll accept!”  Vibe will be rolling out Eminem’s win in their November 2008 issue.  Presidential hopeful Barack Obama will be on the cover of that issue.

RONNIE WOOD SPENDING CASH TO SPITE WIFE?

October 8, 2008

If you believe what you read in the gossip magazines, then Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood is throwing his money away.  According to England’s The Sun, the guitarist is blowing 20-thousand dollars this week to spite his wife.  The rag reports that Wood, who has been seeing a Russian model, is spending the cash on antiques and fast living.  Since Ronnie will probably be divorcing his wife, she could walk away with a settlement of nearly 20-million dollars, that is, if Ronnie doesn’t spend it all first.  A source spoke to the paper about the rocker’s estranged wife, noting, “She is at the end of her tether with him, worried that soon he will have nothing left.  She believes he is spending the money to spite her.”

QUOTED: LIL WAYNE’S SIPPIN’ ON THE SYRUP

October 8, 2008

Earlier in the year Lil Wayne had been seen toting a styrofoam cup.  Many people weren’t quite sure what was in that cup until Weezy later said he was sipping syrup, a combination made up chiefly of promethazine and codeine.  It’s supposed to be prescribed by doctors for severe colds and pneumonia.  He also talked about how he gets flak for it, especially with the death of UGK member Pimp C who died from an overdose on the stuff.  Weezy told MTV News his feelings on quitting the liquid.

“Do your history, do your research, read up on it and then tell me to stop. It ain’t that easy — feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that s**t.  You gotta learn how to stop, you gotta go through detox, you gotta get pills. You gotta do all kinds of s**t. Like I said, I’m a selfish-ass ni**a. I feel like everything I do is successful and productive. It’s gonna be hard to tell me that I’m slipping.”

Lil Wayne certainly hasn’t been slipping.  He currently has three songs in the Billboard top 20 that he’s collaborated on. However, no official word on whether the rapper has kicked his syrup habit.

KANYE WEST TALKS TO ELLEN DeGENERES

October 8, 2008

Yesterday, Kanye West was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  He unveiled his new video for the single “Love Lockdown,” and also opened up about the new way he looks at life since his mother, Donda West, died last November from complications following a cosmetic-surgery procedure.  Apparently, that new outlook is what made West change his mind about his vow to never again work with MTV following the 2007 Video Music Awards.  He said that his mom “really supported” him and she “always wanted him to be the best that he could be and not get hung up on the small things.”  UsMagazine.com quoted the rapper as saying that he “just tries to do things she would want him to do.”  Kanye and Ellen then discussed fashion and the rapper praised the talk-show host for her wardrobe choices, telling her, “You have really great style,” even admitting that he would “completely wear” her outfits.

M.I.A. RETURNS TO THE STAGE

October 8, 2008

Then, her “Paper Planes” single began climbing the charts, and now, anyone with a radio seems to know the tune by heart. So, is it a surprise that the Bonnaroo show is not, in fact, her last? MTV Radio can confirm that M.I.A. will return to the stage this weekend for Diesel’s Rock and Roll Circus festival in Brooklyn, New York. www.Diesel.com has all the details.
