PAUL MCCARTNEY IS PART OF THE FIREMAN
October 5, 2008
The Fireman returns after a 10-year break with Electric Arguments, scheduled for U.S. release on November 18th via MPL/ATO Records. The follow-up to 1998’s Rushes, Electric Arguments is the duo’s third studio album – and its first to feature vocals.
With the release of its 1993 debut, Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest, the identities of the musicians behind The Fireman were initially unknown. But soon the press revealed them as none other than Paul McCartney and Youth. “Paul McCartney has discovered dance music – the results are staggeringly brilliant,” said Melody Maker. “They take a melody and, with dexterous genre-hopping through ambient, trance and house, evolve a number of breathtaking variations.”

And if you donate, you just might win some Feist memorabilia. But that’s not all. Proceeds from Feist merchandise will go to Doctors Without Borders, War Child Canada and Care Canada. Feist is out in support of her 2007 album, The Reminder.
iTUNES NOT CLOSING DOWN
October 5, 2008
According to RollingStone.com, the Copyright Royalty Board will not be raising the online royalty rates for song publishers as originally threatened. That means that Apple’s online music retailer iTunes will not be closing down, but if the board had decided to raise rates, Apple’s profits could have been cut by 300-million dollars over the next five years, which may have meant the end of the digital store. Aram Sinnreich, a music-industry analyst, tells Rolling Stone, “Apple doesn’t make its money from selling iTunes songs, and it’s a break-even business anyway. Let’s say Apple agreed to keep half of it and [publishers] agreed to keep half of it — it would make a dent, but it wouldn’t cause them to go out of business.”

We The Kings are up for a Breaking Woodie award at the 2008 mtvU Woodie Awards. To vote for them, head over to MySpace.com/WeTheKings and follow the Woodie Award link.
KID ROCK IS GOING DIGITAL
October 5, 2008
Even though he refuses to sell his music on iTunes, Kid Rock has found success with the hit single “All Summer Long” and Rock N Roll Jesus, the album that boasts that tune. Now, however, the rocker has finally decided to go digital. According to RollingStone.com, the Detroit native has struck a deal to stream and hock his entire catalog at Rhapsody and its MP3 store for four months. Why the change of heart? Kid is happy because Rhapsody will only sell the albums as a whole, no a la carte song shopping. Once the four months are up, Rock can offer his music wherever he pleases.
