LABELS TURN TO MEMORABILIA FOR CASH

August 4, 2008

Labels have found a new way to make up for their lost profits due to a drop in album sales.  They’re cleaning out their closets and selling off some memorabilia.  Rolling Stone reports that Sony BMG has launched Icon Collectibles, a line of rare photos from their archives.  The set includes unpublished pictures of artists from Miles Davis to Bob Dylan.  Rhino Entertainment is following suit, selling reproductions of concert posters for groups like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.

SNOW PATROL MAKE BEST ALBUM YET?

August 4, 2008

This fall should be an interesting one for music. Already, bands like U2, The Killers, Keane and others have announced they will be releasing new albums. Now, Irish act Snow Patrol say their upcoming record, One Hundred Million Suns, will be out in October. The guys recorded the album at Grouse Lodge, just outside of Dublin, as well as the studio in Berlin where U2 recorded Achtung Baby. What’s it sounding like? Drummer Jonny Quinn tells The Belfast Telegraph, “It’s still very much melody-based, but it’s different too in ways from the other albums. I’d go as far as to say I think it’s our best album yet.”

JET BACK IN THE STUDIO

August 4, 2008

The guys say that while they’ve been touring their latest album, Pretty Odd, they’ve also been writing new songs, but no word on what direction the music has been taking. Panic will be heading out on the Rock Band Live Tour on October 5th along with Dashboard Confessional, Plain White T’s and The Cab.

August 4, 2008

Metro Station is currently on The Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour. They are trekking the country with Boys Like Girls and Good Charlotte. Trace Cyrus told us what it’s like being on the road with those bands.
