MUSICGORILLA.COM HELPS BANDS GET HEARD & SIGNED
July 31, 2008
Songwriters, artists and bands, listen up! There’s a dynamic 800-lb. gorilla in the room and he wants to hook you up with the folks in the industry that can take your career to the next level. Gearing up to celebrate its fourth anniversary, Music Gorilla, a powerful website devoted to “playing it for the labels,” is quickly revolutionizing the process by which up and comers connect with A&R Reps from Indie and Major record companies, Film And TV Music Supervisors, publishers and distributors.
Since its launch, the site has scored numerous exciting success stories, from publishing deals to big film placements. The Emmy Award winning NBC series “Friday Night Lights” has been a particular hotbed source for members; the show has featured 857’s song and video for “Mouth Music” and invited Donna Mea to do a live performance in one episode.
Since the Gorilla took over the once hard to negotiate jungle in 2004, hundreds of artists have enjoyed the incredible array of benefits of the site. First, Music Gorilla exposes their original material via personal website pages to reps from Fox, Disney, Hollywood, Epic, Type A Records, J Records,American, RCA, Velour, Geffen, Reunion/Essential, Capitol Music Group and others. All artists who join the site will be considered by its music editor and co-founder Lawrence Erlichman for placement in MTV’s catalog-which gives them the opportunity for placement on MTV’s original programming.
Music Gorilla members are also immediately eligible to play their music live in one of the site’s live label showcases. Earlier this year, 30 artists were showcased to reps from Capitol Music Group at an event during, but independent of, South By Southwest; members have also played for and received helpful critiques from A&R reps from Sony, Hollywood Records, Epic, Capitol Music Group and more. Artists can also submit tracks for film, TV and video games as well as to established artists currently seeking material.
Unlike similar sites that charge artists for the ability to simply play their songs for the public or to submit music for specific Industry listings, Music Gorilla members get their mp3’s placed directly onto dedicated pages that are built for the music professionals. The site also has a real time newswire and regular “hot sheets” with listings of who’s looking for what and where. Users are encouraged to check out Gorilla Guru for articles on topics that affect the lives and careers of musicians, and Gorilla Goodies for special deals and discounts on CD duplication, The Indie Bible, studio time and more!
For artists and songwriters serious about their careers, the price of joining Music Gorilla is incredibly reasonable. They have the option of paying monthly ($24.95), quarterly ($64.95) or annually ($229.95).

BEEF: THE BLACK CROWES VS GRETCHEN WILSON
July 31, 2008
The Black Crowes think country star Gretchen Wilson’s song “Work Hard Play Harder” sounds an awful lot like their track “Jealous Again.” So much so that the band has issued notices of copyright infringement to Wilson and her label. The Crowes manager said in a statement, “We find the musical verses of Wilson’s song to be such an obvious example of copyright infringement that I expect all parties to reach a relatively quick resolution to avoid litigation.” “Jealous Again” was the lead single that Chris Robinson and company released on their 1991 debut album, Shake Your Money Maker. The Black Crowes are currently on tour and they play in Bridgeport, Connecticut tomorrow.

QUOTED: BRAD ARNOLD ENCOURAGES CONSERVATION
July 31, 2008
The country is experiencing some rough times. The housing bubble burst. We’re at war. Gas prices are high. 3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold knows about the latter. In fact, a few years ago he spoke to us about walking more and conserving resources.
“You gotta start conserving a little bit, gotta be smarter. I was saying a minute ago to someone I was talking to is that we stood with our hands at our sides for too long, and we got a right hook to the jaw. It’s time to put our hands up in front of our face and block a lot of different punches.”
3 Doors Down will be playing Kearney, Nebraska tomorrow.
50 CENT INSPIRED SOULJA BOY
July 31, 2008
Rapper Soulja Boy Tell’em has given new meaning to taking initiative after putting his own music on the Internet and scoring a record deal. The 18-year-old “Crank That” entertainer gives credit to 50 Cent for motivating him to focus on music. “It was 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club,’” Soulja admitted to MTV News, when asked what song inspired him to get into the rap game, “When I seen that, I was like, ‘That’s what I wanna do.’” Now, an international platinum success, the Atlanta native is working on his next album iSouljaBo, as a tribute to today’s technology. You can check out Soulja’s new video, “Marco Polo,” featuring Bow Wow on MTV.com today.
QUOTED: PRONOUNCE COLBIE CAILLAT
July 31, 2008
Since she’s become so popular and well-known, Colbie Caillat probably doesn’t hear her name mispronounced all that much anymore. But fret not, if you run into the singer-songwriter, we’ve got you covered so you won’t embarrass yourself.
“People for the most part know how to pronounce my last name. some people get it wrong, but it’s cute, I mean, obviously it’s French, it’s kind of hard to figure out on your own, so we say it’s Caillat like ballet.”
Colbie Caillat, like ballet, will perform in Dallas, Texas tomorrow. She’s opening for John Mayer.
QUOTED: KATY PERRY PRAYS FOR WINEHOUSE
July 31, 2008
Straight from the preacher’s daughter’s mouth, Katy Perry had a few words of advice for the talented and troubled singer Amy Winehouse. Perry says she is a big fan of the singer and wants her to get some help and stay clean.
“Damn girl, you need to get off that sh**. Come on, well just like, find the lord. You need the lord. If someone need the lord in this business, it’s you, honey child.”
Winehouse was in a London hospital recently after being admitted Monday because of a reaction to some of the medication she is taking. She is at home now. Katy Perry is currently on Warped Tour and plays Noblesville, Indiana today.
SNOOP DOGG IN INDIA?
July 31, 2008
West coast rapper Snoop Dogg will be teaming up with the king of Indian films, Akshay Kumar, to record the title track for the upcoming film, Singh is Kinng. According to People.com, the Bollywood epic will also feature a music video with the 36-year-old rapper dressed in traditional sardar attire. The two different styles, fusing Snoop’s hip hop with Akshay’s Bhangra, will be a very interesting mixture. According to the music video producer Vipul A. Shah, “Their chemistry was worth seeing as they’re superstars from two different worlds. To say the least, the video is looking brilliant!” But this shouldn’t come as a total surprise, Snoop released a country song, “My Medicine,” this past June.
