LIL WAYNE SUED OVER FIRE
July 27, 2008 | by Skope Staff
Lil Wayne has been playing with fire. Reuters reports the rapper was sued last week for altering a song, and it’s not the usual sample theft that we hear about so frequently. The music publishing company that owns the rights to The Rolling Stones’ classic “Play With Fire” filed suit against Weezy for his song, “Playing with Fire,” saying it “is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way.” The lawsuit, filed in federal court in New York, charges copyright infringement and unfair competition and is seeking unspecified damages.
