HACKERS ATTACK HIP HOP SITES / STATEMENT FROM SOHH

July 1, 2008

As many of you are already aware, www.SOHH.com has been under attack by hackers this week. We noticed the first wave of attacks in our vBulletins forums and as of this morning the whole site was compromised.

It appears that hackers are specifically targeting Black, Hispanic, Asian and Jewish youth who ascribe to hip hop culture. Other websites, including AllHipHop and Da Piff Forums, have also been compromised or threatened this week.

We are managing this situation on several fronts. We have taken down the server to patch the security breach and put in protections for future attacks. Also, as this is an international issue, it is being addressed by The FBI and the Strategic Alliance Cyber Crime Working Group.

We realize the hackers attacked SOHH.com because of our stature in the hip hop space and the people we serve. Unfortunately, we did a poor job of protecting SOHH.com from imminent threats from people who hate our community simply because of it’s racial and ethnic makeup.

This has brought to light our vulnerabilities and those of the internet users as a whole. What’s possible now is for us to join together to identify and eliminate this threat.

BOY GEORGE TOUR IS CANCELLED / STATEMENT

July 1, 2008

Despite all attempts at an appeal, Boy George’s US Visa has been denied and the singer’s summer tour has been cancelled as a result.  George was looking forward to his first North American tour as a solo artist in over a decade.  Dates were to have kicked off with an appearance on the Today Show and included a special concert for the New York Department of Sanitation workers and families at the organization’s Family Day this August.

In a statement, George said:

“I was really hoping that the issue would be resolved and that some kind soul at the US Visa Office would realize that if the police in the UK placed no restrictions on my movements, that should have been good enough for them.  I am very sorry that I will not see all my American fans this year, but I wish them a happy and healthy Fourth of July.  I include the Visa Office in those good wishes and realize they are doing a very difficult job and I just got unlucky.”

George will soldier on, however, with a South American tour in September and a 25-date tour across the UK in October of this year.  The singer’s North American dates will be rescheduled for Winter 2009.

Crue Fest kicks off today in West Palm Beach, Florida. Despite the tour’s name, Motley Crue are not the only act playing. Fans will also get to see sets from Buckcherry, Papa Roach and more. Singer Josh Todd of Buckcherry says to expect a powerful performance from them.

“You know, the lineup’s different and it’s like the band we’ve always wanted to be in. You know, so the shows have had more power behind them and you know we’re just getting along really well as adults, so you know I think that makes a whole lot of difference too.”
