But hurry, the contest ends on the 18th. Mraz’s new album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things is due out Tuesday.
MAROONED AT THE CROSSROADS
May 9, 2008
Sara Evans teams up with Maroon 5 tonight on the latest edition of CMT Crossroads. Sara told CMT Insider’s Katie Cook says she’s been a fan of the band – and their lead singer Adam Levine — since they released their debut CD – Songs About Jane – back in 2002.
“I have been a huge Maroon 5 fan since their first song. CMT has talked to me many times about Crossroads. And I was just sort of waiting to get the opportunity to do my Crossroads with Maroon 5. [Adam Levine] Her real favorite one fell through. She couldn’t do it with Justin Timberlake. [Sara] Yeah. So… [Katie Cook] But you’re not supposed to know that. [Adam} We said yes.”
Levine says the toughest thing about performing with Sara was learning country music. In fact, Adam says he gets a lot of flack from people because he doesn’t know much about music.
“I do. I get a lot of flack for this but I don’t know enough about anything. I just have a strange, rare, random talent. I can sing. And write. But it’s kind of like a savant thing. [Sara] I don’t know what that word means. [Adam] I’m an idiot savant. I don’t actually know what I’m doing. [Sara] Whatever!”
CMT Crossroads with Sara and Maroon 5 premieres tonight at 9 PM Eastern.
NextAid Launches “Bids 4 Beats” Online Auction
May 9, 2008
NextAid, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit humanitarian organization, and cMarket, the leading provider of charitable online auction services, will once again collaborate to produce the second annual “Bids 4 Beats.” The auction will raise awareness and funds through the global electronic music community in support of NextAid’s mission: to implement sustainable solutions to the challenges facing African children. “Bids 4 Beats” will commence at 8:00am PST on Monday, May 5, 2008 and close at 6:00pm PST on Sunday, June 1, 2008. In 2006, “Bids 4 Beats” raised more than $12,000 from online bidding, resulting in total proceeds of over $24,000 due to bids matched by a private donor. This year, the auction includes items from previous auction supporters, such as Glac?, who has generously donated a year’s supply of VitaminEnergy drinks, and Rane, a manufacturer of audio gear, as well as new contributors including music recording software developer, Cakewalk, who has donated the award winning virtual instrument, Rapture. Online partners supporting this event include Fusicology.com and Remix Magazine.
To reflect the sustainable element of NextAid’s initiative, the catalog will include donations from leading players in technology and “green” living in addition to items of great interest to the international dance music scene. Biddable items are accessible through this web site: www.nextaid.cmarket.com.
MIKE MUSICK’S SINGLE “AMERICA” TO BE FEATURED IN PBS DOC
May 9, 2008
Mike Musick’s (www.mikemusick.com) hit single “America” is being featured in the soon to be released documentary “The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?” which will air on PBS stations across the west in September. The single which is currently #10 on the ACQB radio charts, will be featured during the final sequence of the film, which offers a definitive look at how the United States water crisis affects the Southwest states and its escalating economic toll on the region.
Jim Thebaut, Writer, Director and Producer of “The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?,” chose to use “America” because “Mike’s song is a call to action for individuals to act locally and think globally in order to confront and solve the evolving water crisis. The song speaks volumes for individuals to pay attention and to take responsibility in order to create a healthy and safe world for all of us to live in.” In collaboration with the documentary, Mike Musick’s charity Thirst Aid Live will be donating 37 cents from the sale of each “America” download to address the global water crisis through installing water purification systems across the developing world.
