CONDOLEEZZA RICE MEETS KISS

It seems as though Kiss may have a new fan… Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  The politician was in Stockholm for an international conference on Iraq the day before the band was set to play a sold-out concert in the Swedish capital city.  It just so happened that Gene, Paul, Eric and Tommy were staying in the same hotel as Condi and she had a chance late-night encounter with the four rockers in the executive lounge at the Sheraton.  There, the musicians signed autographs and handed out backstage passes and T-shirts to Rice and her staff.  She spoke about the meeting with the Associated Press, saying, “I was thrilled.  It was really fun to meet Kiss and Gene Simmons.”  Condoleezza added that the band seemed well-informed about current events.  Kiss also invited Rice, as well as the Swedish foreign minister, to their show.  While they agreed to it, there is no word yet if they actually took them up on the offer.

SHIRLEY MANSON STARS IN SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

Shirley Manson, best known as the lead singer of Garbage, is heading to your TV screen. She will have a regular role on the next season of FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Manson will play “Catherine Weaver,” the CEO of a “cutting edge high-tech company.” We’ll keep you posted as to when you can see the flame-haired singer on the show.

KEYBOARDIST LEAVES DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

The Dave Matthews Band’s summer tour got underway on Thursday, but it was without Butch Taylor.  The keyboardist, who has been with DMB for a decade, has left the band for unknown reasons.  Dave and company responded to Butch’s departure via a post on DMBand.com, which reads, “We are saddened by this sudden news but he has our full support.  He’s given so much to us and our audience through the years and he will be missed.”  The group does not intend to replace Taylor during the tour.

JOHN MAYER HAS A NEW LEG

John Mayer has yet to embark on the first leg of his summer tour and he’s already announcing a second. The nine dates kick off on August 19th in Charlotte, North Carolina and they run through the 31st in West Palm Beach, Florida. LIFEHOUSE VIDEO TO BE DIRECTED BY STUDENTS

The next video from Lifehouse will be for the song “Make Me Over,” and the way the band is making the clip is quite interesting. The group will have 60 USC students compete for the honor. It’s easy for an artist to get caught up in the rock and roll lifestyle.  Between trashing hotel rooms, groupies and an unlimited supply of drugs and alcohol, who can find the time to relax and take care of their body? Well, Sara Bareilles has managed not only to avoid falling into the trap of rock star debauchery, but she has even managed to almost completely eliminate one of her vices since she started touring.

“I stopped drinking as much when we started touring more just because it was harder to recover and I just didn’t feel as good all the time, so it’s almost like I’ve gotten healthier now that we’re working harder.”

50 CENT’S HOME DESTROYED IN “SUSPICIOUS” FIRE

According to MTV News, rapper 50 Cent’s Long Island home has burned to the ground. The blaze started Friday morning and is said to have completely gutted the house. Six people were inside the Dix Hills dwelling at the time of the blaze, including the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, and their son, Marquise. Everyone in the house was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and later released. As of press, the fire department has classified the blaze as “suspicious,” but said that 50 is not currently a suspect. According to Newsday, last month, the rapper tried to evict Tompkins and their son from that home unless they started paying him rent.
